Oh, cmon, theMac, as much as you admire Aaron's work, you don't have to try and justify every piece of work and offer explanations for every decisions that he makes. Fury has never had any close connections with Thor or shared any confidences with him. Like with many of the Avengers, Fury has had a working relationship with him over the years but they are acquaintances at best. Thor has had many close and trustworthy mortals friends over the years. I wouldn't think Fury would be one of them.

The reason Fury knew what to whisper to Thor, in Original Sin, was that he had access to the Watcher's secrets and Thor as well as many of the others heroes all had revelations about their lives revealed to them in that series only we readers were kept in the dark about what secret was whispered to Thor.

I've never heard of it either but it must be magic or have some kind of enchantment on it. I mean you can't just stick a piece of Uru shaped to look like an arm, onto Thor's stump where his arm was chopped off and expect it to instantly function like his old arm without some magic been involved.

I could just quote the references but trust me, Fury was there or actively made himself available as a sounding board for the two most important moments in the Thor/Mjolnir relationship. This is bound to be related. The watcher revelations are icing on the cake.

P.S. Oh what the... I have nothing better to do this evening.
Thor #337 One of the most famous Thor comics ever: Who is that right on the spot when a horse faced alien finds an odd looking stick?
    Thor #337.jpg

Thor #341 Just back from Asgard feeling a little disorientated after being disconnected from Donald Blake Thor goes looking for somebody that will understand his situation. He wants an identity, and that is Nick's speciality.
    Thor #341.jpg

All this in an era when SHIELD was being promoted as a cornerstone of the MU and Fury could call on the Avengers at a moment's notice, almost as their superhero troops.

The context from this period plus the revelations from the watcher, put Fury in a unique position.

When it comes down to it this is all just theory, but think about the whole history of Thor and how few quiet chatty moments he has had with non-asgardians. A few Avengers maybe, Jane, a couple of other girlfriends, not many. He is an action hero primarily. How many people from earth really know him well? Tony, Jane, I am running low, can anyone else name somebody that knows him well as Thor?

Simonson could certainly draw Fury don't you think?

Sure its magical. Is there even a question that it wouldn't be? Aaron is employing an ambiguous reference as technique. He or another writer can expand upon it if they need to. Right now we only have a few panels of exposition.

I swear, if he leaves that hammer, I'm going to be disappointed. I get the whole Worthy thing of not needing the hammer, and I like that ideal, and it shows who Thor really is...The God of Thunder! But it doesn't mean he can't use one. So then, what?? It just floats out in space for all time, lost? What was the point of bringing it to the Marvel Prime universe then? Idk, it's been a great series and I know this can go in several different ways, but I jut hoped he would get the hammer. Probably because I really liked Ultimate Thor as a character, and hoped this would be a great way to carry on his legacy of a character. But based on this and the Might Thor cover, it's looking less likely. Still, I won't know for sure until the issue comes out. So, for now, I just wait. Hrm.

It'll sit there until an epic moment in the conclusion of whatever Aaron is building to when he calls a hammer for light years away to smash XYZ when all is seemingly lost

    or something

It may be telling that "future thor" in Aarons own story has Mjolnir, not ultimate hammer.

Let's not read too much into a preview. It was reading a lot into the book that he would get to wield this hammer in the first place. This book doesn't seem to be a redemption arc, we haven't even been party to the reasons for unworthiness yet. Personally I am expecting a twist, but let's not forget that this hammer isn't his so different criteria may apply even with the same enchantment.
