The first 16 issues are actually pretty terrible, although there's some nice Gene Colan artwork on the first four issues. Things pick up a little when Roy Thomas and Gil Kane take over. The highlight is really the Starlin run, which is available in other cheaper formats if you're only looking for the best of the best.

I am really surprised by this. They are almost done Masterworking this material the next Volume 17 should wrap up the first Miller run. I’m not sure if Vol 17 is gonna release before or after this, so will this use the new files or the same as the previous volumes. If the same old files that’s a pretty crummy thing for Marvel to do.

Completely agree with Babylon 23(the Captain Marvel early issues aren't anything special and don't improve significantly before Starlin).

But will still buy it as grand-parents had some of the originals in a basement cubby I would read and I have a soft spot for the issues(but they are amongst the worst(most simplistic perhaps?) of the Marvel publications of the time).

There was some discussion of this over on the Masterworks forum and they came to the conclusion that as Miller's run has not yet been completely Masterworked, the new printing will be based on the "old" Omnibus files. I'm thinking it's just a way of Marvel cashing in knowing that those who don't have it will pick it up whereas when the possible 5th printing hits the stands, collectors will buy it due to it being Masterworked even though they already have it in Omnibus format.

As a Daredevil completist, I have the Omnibus and have been picking up the Masterworks, as well as having the majority of the singles from when I was a kid. I agree with you that it would probably be better and released it using the new files.
