Nightcrawler, guys. Let's not forget what he did to Nightcrawler. The fact that some recent writers have managed to do triage on the whole Azazel thing doesn't excuse it.

The guy was literally run out of the industry by angry fans. He will never work again for any major publisher. He cannot show his face at any con to profit off his work by doing signings or whatever. I think that says it all.

So how many of the uncollected Uncanny X-Men issues are on Marvel Unlimited?

I believe the whole run- sans the reprint issues- are up there.

Lol, I thought you were exaggerating a little but it looks like you're dead on.

I'm thinking one reason I didn't dislike the run as much - and granted I read it ten or more years ago one time (so maybe a second reading wouldn't be so good) - is that I never really cared for night crawler or angel. I know! Blasphemy! So all the messed up stuff he did to them probably - at the time - didn't hit me. Of course, the scene with Angela and Husk having sex in front of her mom in public - which I forgot - was stupid.

That link led me to this one:

It is kind of fascinating. Guy had all the keys to the kingdom and really blew it.

I don't understand how garbage writers end up in comics. I mean, so many people want to work in comics these days. And say what you want about how Marvel and DC (especially DC right now) are treating their creators, you would think the bottom of the barrel would still be higher than some of what we get. Like, I just read Edmondson's Punisher run. That guy is a garbage writer with no talent for it whatsoever, so how did he get that job? Sure, he isn't a disaster, but he still has absolutely no talent. Can't Marvel support a higher standard? Ah well.

Read the article. Wow. I mean, I didn't like his Uncanny run either. It was bad. But not run out of the business bad. More of a "You're really, really the wrong voice for this title." bad. I could see him doing a good creator owned comic nowadays at Image that fit his sensibilities. Kind of like Joe Casey and "Sex".

Further, it's amusing how people **** all over Austen's X-Men yet enjoy the dog turds of the 1990s.
Also, as another poster noted, what he did with Juggernaut was actually pretty cool. Too bad it was undone. So much for progress and character development.
What did he do with Juggernaut?

It wasn't just X-Men, though. He was also given the Avengers, Captain America, JLA, Superman, & Exiles (just off the top of my head), and failed to write anything but crap reviled by fans of each title. It was just worse with X-Men because he was on the book so long, and managed to do damage (Nightcrawler, Xorn) that cannot really be fixed short of a deal with Mephisto or, like, Time Wraiths or whatever Busiek used to erase The Crossing (still need to read those omnis).

Personally, I think he's a crap writer who wrote crap stories based on bad ideas. Good writers can write bad stories (everyone does sometimes), and bad writers can write good stories badly (and get away with it sometimes), but if you're a bad writer writing nothing but bad stories with predominately bad ideas, you should stop. Which he was made to.

I don't mind his art. If he came back to the industry with the promise that he wouldn't contribute so much as a word or do any plotting . . . nevermind, burn any book he touches, we can't take the risk.

    Hahahahahahaha!
No, seriously, there was character development and he turned him into a good guy. I kind of simplify it but I didn't think it was bad at the time.

One more thing to be said about Austen. It might be interesting to see who the X-Men editor was at the time because that person should hold equal blame. These stories didn't happen in a vacuum.

who said they won't? They are slowly filling up the gaps and there is hope they will eventually complete the lines. It's already mapped out. And it's easier to put them in order when someone is a newbie and just pick them up in a bookshop, even when there are gaps.
Also the volume numbers are only on the back and not on the spines, which was a wise decision so it doesn't bother me at all.

I'm not saying they wont finish some of them but I dont think the Epic line will stay around long enough to fill most of them. You have series' with volume 17 and 18 epics without a volume 1 or two lol My main point is that its stupid. I greatly believe it will stop before finishing and guys will be left with like a volume 1, 5 and 16 of a series. I'd atleast be more understanding if they started with volume ones and had to stop before finishing but what they have going now. No thanks. They should stick to doing Omnibus' and MMW or Omnibus' and Epics. They're doing too much collecting in different formats and not enough collecting and completing collected lines.
