I’m going back and forth on this. Is it any good?

for most part they were little character vignettes that supplemented the main story being repeated. John Bolton did some pretty artwork. If you are a completist, it might have value. But just someone wanting a story, I don't think you would be pleased with it.

I'm a huge X-Men and had been hoping they would do an Omni of this material as a lot of it uncollected. I'd say it is mostly for hardcore X-fans or people who want more of the Claremont era. It will probably be a bumpy read as I believe the stories fit during Uncanny X-Men #94-160ish.

Yes. Each issue corresponds to each consecutive issue of the Claremont run. In the floppies, they told the original stories, with these as back up stories to enhance the originals. In some cases, they actually added pages to the original issues.

So if someone wants to read this, they will have to read the original Uncanny X-Men issue first, then the first issue of the classic. Rinse and repeat.

So it's not like reading the issues in Amazing SM omnibus 1 and then years later reading Untold SM by Busiek, which are complete stories that fit in between each issue? Or is it similar?

It really depends on the kinds of stories you prefer. As others have noted, they tend to be slice-of-life stories that deepen your understanding of the characters or dig into their backstories. It was a Classic X-Men backup where we learned Sabretooth stalks Wolverine every year on his birthday and almost kills him, just to prove he still can. Another has Nightcrawler losing a bet and having to walk down the street sans image inducer. One showed the conversation the Phoenix Force had with Jean Grey as she was dying of radiation poisoning. Another showed how the Inner Circle of the Hellfire Club formed and went from kinda amoral business types to evil mother****ers after their moral compass was killed. Sometimes the stories just added a little extra poignancy to existing stories, like one that showed Jean was getting ready for her and Scott's first night together when the Sentinels attacked and she became the Phoenix.

Mind you, those were among the better stories. Others were pretty forgettable, and after Claremont stopped writing all of them, the quality became verrrrry hit or miss. Overall, I'd recommend it if you tend to like "quiet" issues of comics, more character-driven and less fighty fight, stabby stab. If you vastly prefer all-out action and/or trippy Morrisonian idea porn to more subdued character studies, you might want to take a pass.

Most of the stories are like that, yes. For instance, Jean Grey's in the hospital after becoming the Phoenix, and Colossus (or was it Nightcrawler?) encounters a ghost child after visiting her. The first story takes place the night of Giant-Size X-Men #1, with the new team getting acclimated to the mansion and the old team resenting them (or, in Alex & Lorna's case, reminding Xavier why you don't mind-eavesdrop on horny teenagers). One of the original stories picks up in media res with the team already captured by Mesmero, and the later Classic X-Men story shows how that happened. When the team is in the Savage Land for a few issues, the CXM backups take place in the Savage Land.

That said, that tended to lessen as time went on, as some stories were set in the past or could take place at any nebulous time during the team's history. (Lookin' at you, Wolverine. How many random trips to upper Canada do you TAKE?)

Thanks for the review. This all actually sounds pretty good. And yeah, I figure there's gonna be some strikeouts in between the home runs. Claremont and especially those who followed him for years were like that.

Classic X-Men also added new pages or slightly changed the original pages in the reprints, and the Omnibus is supposed to have them included.

@ The Lucky One, thx also for those in depth comments re: X-Men Classic, looks like you've almost convinced me in picking this up. I'm not an X-Men fan but I do have and like the 3 UXM Omnis (& Claremont/Lee Omnis), so the Classic would be a nice companion piece. I wonder if there will be a breakdown in the Classic Omni showing where the stories fit in amongst the UXM issues similar to the breakdown in the Untold Tales of Spidey Omni?

Can anyone tell me what type of Ikea bookcases these are? I got them years ago and need to get new ones. They sort of look like Billys but I don't think they are based on the bottom and dimensions.

Overall case (dual case next to another one)

Are the reprints of True Believer Jean Grey/Phoenix that will soon be released to be collected into one volume sometime in 2018?

Did anyone get the All New, All Different Avengers OHC in August?
Mine never arrived and my supplier says it's a delay in distribution, but it's been like 3 months!
Also, if you did, can you confirm the contents?

I ended up getting the Deadpool & X-Force Omni as well as the Star Wars UK Omni from IST today.
With the discounts they came to $45 & $38 respectively and while I was going to wait, that just felt too good to hedge a bet they would be priced better later.

This was after I got Spider-man Clone Saga vol.2 and Aquaman Atlantis Chronicles on Tuesday!

I’m trying to get Jason Aaron’s Thor. Is his run all collected? Also I love the Wicked and the Divine, hows Journey into Mystery?
