Since it's becoming more and more unlikely that we'll see an Omnibus of it, I'm gonna nab the 7 Hitman trades. I have the floppies, but they're all boxed away, along with the rest of my floppies. This being one of my favorite series of all time, I want it on my reading shelf.

I'm curious: Why will they never collect The Monster Society of Evil?

I recently ordered the first tpb of Hitman, and will buy more of the series if I like it (might give it a vol 2 chance if I feel lukewarm on the first trade).

You mentioned it being one of your favorite series, but how does it compare to Ennis's other works? Also, in your opinion, does it get better as the series goes on, is it consistently good (same level throughout), or does it vary? Just curious as to what to expect.

Trust me, I want Monster Society of Evil more than anything in a new collected edition. Though, I already have it, as I bought the very expensive Deluxe Limited Collector's Edition (1989).
Things I love: Batman, Superman, AEW, old films, Lovecraft

Grant Morrison: “Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multibillion-dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it's not real.”

I honestly like it better than Preacher. It's more fun, I like the art/characters better and it doesn't take it self as seriously as Preacher or Ennis' Hellblazer sometimes can. I don't think it gets better or worse as it goes on, besides some dips here and there (there was one particular storyline that had to do with soldiers I didn't care for, as it took too serious a tone for this series), but otherwise, it's pretty consistent, and if you don't like the first trade, you won't like the series.

Same here, for the same reasons.

For me, it's second under Preacher. But I put Preacher above all other comics, so nothing will top that. Hard to compare to some of his more serious books. I've read the first two trades for The Boys, and while I intend on finishing that run, I haven't gotten around to it yet. So I can't really compare Hitman to that series, although it did feel similar in tone.

I could not get into Ennis's The Boys - something felt off about it - it was a tad too smug and moved a bit too slow.

It was announced, but was cancelled because Levitz (still in charge at the time) thought it was super-racist.

What are the opinions about Jeff Smith's Monster society of evil?

It's one of the few series I have in tpb.

I finally got to New Frontier after years. I never wanted it in TPB and I'm not a big fan of Cooke so I didn't want to spring for the Absolute. I love the deluxe though and thought the story was fantastic. It's really more of a Green Lantern origin story but it was a good read and compelling. As for Cooke's art, much of the time it was spot on for the content and atmosphere of the story. Some panels and pages were gorgeous but (and this is my problem with Cooke) other panels looked like stuff I used to draw when I was a kid.

I'm glad I finally have it in deluxe and it's definitely something I'll reread over the years.

So glad to hear others talk about Hitman!

Love the series! It just got better and better in my opinion. From almost slapstick gross out humour to deadly serious.

I 'm always hoping to hear of some kind of hardcover collected edition to be released. Keep thinking of getting all my floppies bound in a custom omnibus type book.
