The Absolute is gorgeous. Quitely's art is beautiful in the larger format. I adore the Absolute.

So, I knew the Orion backups were in the back of the omnibus, but are they also out of order? I was looking at the individual issues on MyComicShop and the first backup mentioned is in #3 and by Frank Miller. I've been flipping back and forth as I read and I'm five issues in and still haven't seen the Miller story (or any of the first few mentioned on MCS).
They put some other stuff before the Orion back-ups, so I think the order goes like this:
Showcase '94 #1, DCU Holiday Bash #1, Fourth World #9-11, 13, New Gods Secret Files #1, Legends of the DCU 80-Page Giant #2, Orion #3-4, 6-8, 10, 12-15, 18-19, Tales of the New Gods TPB, Countdown #24
I have absolutely NO idea why DC published them out of order but it's seriously egregious. I just finished reading this series myself (I have it bound). It's essential to read the backups in order and right after the issue they were originally published because it helps you understand the issue you just read. Here's how they should be read (issue # first and the backup story that accompanies it):
#3 - 'Tales of the New Gods' by Miller
#4 - 'Ashes, Ashes, we all fall down' by Gibbons
#6 - 'The Perfect Servant' by Larsen
#7 - 'Death and his brother' by Chaykin
#8 - 'Dead End' by Liefeld (yuck)
#10 - 'Light!' by Arthur Adams (my absolute favorite backup story in the entire series!)
#12 - 'The Garden' by Jim Lee
#13 - 'The arming of Apokolips' by Simonson
#14 - 'Frankenstein's Legacy' by Simonson
#15 - 'Greater than/Lesser than' by John Paul Leon
#18 - 'A Good Servant' by Milgrom
#19 - 'The art of the deal' by Eddie Campbell

“Now faith, hope, and love remain, and the greatest of these is love.”--1 Corinthians 13:13
“You had a dream; I have a plan”--Cyclops
“There's no point in being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes.”--The Doctor
Yeah, I think I'm gonnna start over since I'm not that far along. I remember reading they added to the main story, and after reading that Christmas story I was like "ok, something is not right" and started looking around to see what was up.
