    Default 1000 books in 2024

I didn't count last year, so I'll give it a try this year. I copied the text from the previous one:

    Here we go again!

Happy new year and welcome to the 2024 edition of the 1000 books challenge!

The goal, just like in the previous years, is to read at least a 1000 comic book issues in the coming 365 days, starting today!

Keep us updated of your progress and if you fancy, write a few lines about what you've read, what you liked and disliked, just to keep things interesting and informative (even if you just pick your favorite and least favorite of your batch).

Usually a 22 page comic counts as one issue, in case of other formats (Euro comics, manga, etc) just divide the page count with 22. That said, if you feel like your 48 pages long French album is really wordy and takes just as long to read as a 120pg american tpb, then feel free to count it as 3 or even 5 issues, nobody gonna shout at you, it's all for fun.

Feel free to adjust the volume of the challenge depending on your circumstances. If you think you can only manage to read 300 issues this year, you are still more then welcome to participate and use this thread to keep track of your readings.
Same goes if you think you will read way more than a 1000 issues.

    Happy reading everyone!

Namor the Sub-Mariner, Marvel's oldest character, will have been published for 85 years in 2024. So where's my GOOD Namor anniversary ongoing, Marvel?

Happy to see the thread up, let's rock!

I'm setting a goal of 300 comics this year.

Including manga chapters, One Piece tends to be 17-19 pages or so, but varies. And for 2000AD, I count 4 of those (24 pgs) as 1 comic, occasionally 3 (18 pgs) if it breaks up better. For the Judge Dredd Megazine which has 10 pg stories, I count 2 of those as a comic.

And I think I'll count X-Men: God Loves Man Kills as 2 comics, been meaning to read that.

Here's to a great year of comics, keep being excellent everyone! 👍

I've a goal for myself to read one omnibus a month, while keeping up with my regular pull list. Looking forward to the new year and the great stories I'll read.

I did 1184 last year (well, I read more, but my record keeping got sloppy after August) I don't think I'll get there this year, I'm going to play more video games instead I think, but I'll record and see how it goes.

Accidently posted this in the 2023 version, so here it is here for the sake of consistancy

Gonna try and take part this year
Anyway, here's my list so far

    1) X-Men #15 (2021)- I've not fully kept up with this run, but finding it randomly and decided to read and yeah, it's a great issue. Duggan is a solid writer, he kind of reminds me of Jason Aaron is a lot of ways. Still, solid book.

2-3) Avengers 1&2 (1998)- Honestly, this book is great. Perez is firing on all cylinders here, an absolute gem of a book. Only downside is that we're doing an alternative Universe story so soon after Heroes Reborn. It's fine now, but back in 1998, this must have been slightly annoying. As it stands, I like this book a lot. Look forward to reading more.

4-5) Ultimate Fantastic Four 1&2- I'll confess, I kind love the Ultimate Universe, and so there's a lot going into these books I like already. However, the padding and decompression is real, still, having Bendis and Millar (the two big hitters for early 00's Marvel) on a book together, you could see them fix each other's worst tendencies, while those issues still being there.
It's not as bitter or as cold as Ultimates, but there is a mean spirited edge to it, and it doesn't have dialogue that go on forever like New Avengers, but panels are kind of wasted. Still, I'm enjoying this book so far. It's a lot of fun and hey look, two issues in and they finally get the accident that gives them their powers...

(I will update in a few days with what I’ve read since…)

6-10) Ultimate Fantastic Four 3-6- I enjoyed this arc a lot, but damn if the decompression is real. In any other time, this would have been 4 issues at most, but stretching it out to to 6... yeah, makes you wonder what a different time 2004 was. Still, it was an interesting interpretation of the original FF #1. I look forward to seeing what this series brings us.

    11) Avengers (1998) #3- I have very mixed feelings on this book. I like how the Characters are written and I enjoy the stakes and conflict, but the setting reeeaallly drags stuff out for me. I feel this may not have been the best arc to start things off as out of the 3 issues, it's only the first issue I had very little problems with. Saying that, it has made me look forward to seeing what else we get from this run.

12-17) Y: The Last Man 6-11- I read the first 5 issues late last year, so I decided to continue my reading of this series. Honestly, I enjoyed this volume a lot more than the first. I managed to read the whole second volume in 1 sitting, something I very rarely do. I'm glad I picked this book up because I enjoy nearly everything this comic has to give. This premise could very easily, especially in 2002, gone very wrong, and under a lesser writer, could have created more problems, but I think besides some ideas that may not have aged very well (I think the premise would be a terf's wet dream in 2024), this series holds up in a lot of aspects for the writing. Some interesting conflicts are presented here and I look forward to seeing where it goes.

18-19) Young Avengers Presents 5&6- I like a series which just presents one off conflicts and doesn't worry too much about changing the status quo for later books. This little one shots have been a lot of fun to read, and easy to get through as I can take my time through the series. They aren't masterpieces by any stretch of the imagination, but I enjoyed how they delved into the psyche of each character. Giving each issue a different creative team also helped to break any order for these books. I'm glad i read this little mini series.

I really like this idea. I think I'll do that too. 1 omni a month plus just the normal weekly stuff I read on the app would probably get me pretty close and I'm sure I'll read other stuff besides just those.
