Holy crap, that GL vol 2 binding. Woooooooooooooow. I heard it was bad, but I thought it was just as bad as vol 1. Not THAT!
Kind of regretting the copy I have in the mail on its way to me right now. Is it even readable like that?
Also, is that the right order of the books by publication date of the content within? I know I can look this up, but I haven't yet.
Great book porn, I mean video!
Whatever happens with the Waid Flash trade now will be telling, I think.
pretty much agree with everything you wrote. I am getting the SA SS book but it's not a best book they can publish and delaying the Flash book that supposed to come out around the same time as Flash season 3? not wise IMHO.
Also, damn it! Just do those bloody Waid paperbacks already. Flash is as hot as Batman right now and they do TT, Suicide Squad and Nightwing? I mean don't get me wrong, I'm glad they're doing those but now is the time to reprint everything with Flash.
Apparently Waid was too quick to fly off the handle - the Waid Flash trade is still coming. He later clarified. So it's still happening folks!
Edit - Whoops, saw NeathBlue already reported this. That's what I get for posting before getting caught up on the thread.
Part of the rumor is Green Lantern volume 1 will be getting a reprint with corrected trade dress and a good chunk of the volume 2 added on. Also that the next JLA will skip to Justice League of America Bronze age. Since the poster just said a friend at DC told him I am a little gun shy as posting it all as fact but if true the binding on volume 2 of GL wont stay a problem long.
The whole rumor was posted on the DC side of the Masterworks board.
SA GL is just getting a chunky tpb. Seems weird doing an upgraded edition of the omnibus. Especially since the original omnibus wasn't exactly the hottest seller if I'm not mistaken. There are other omnibuses that would deserve an upgraded reprint, like New teen titans maybe?
Aggghh. That's really unfortunate. It's kind of unbelievable they could drop the ball THAT badly, even though at least it hasn't happened again.
What I meant with the chronological thing was the order of the books, the way you've arranged them from left to right. With World's Finest being the latest, after Supergirl, though obviously keeping multiple volumes of a set together. I wanted to cheat off you so I don't have to look it up myself for my shelf.
It wasn't a hot seller because it didn't meet expectations for what an omnibus is supposed to be, both in amount of content collected and particularly quality of construction. The word from day one was that no one was happy with them and that they weren't worth buying. Hell, even I'm only buying them now and that's because I've decided to be a completist. I own every other DC omnibus (except the dumb N52 collection ones with villain and zero issues and stuff) and these are the very last two I'm purchasing to get there. I can only speak for myself of course, but if they were that bad that this is what it took to get me to buy them, I can only imagine lots of other collectors felt the same way and just skipped them despite a level of interest in the contents that would have gotten them to purchase a better made book. So I honestly believe a reissue would sell much better.
Agreed about New Teen Titans. They really need to be back in print much more than Green Lantern needs a reissue.
That's awesome news, and it's great to hear DC has those intentions, but I'm not going to count my chickens, ya know? I think it certainly would make great business sense to do so, though, for reasons I've just said.
I agree with not counting chickens but the Green Lantern was so specific and random, and I really want to believe the part where Superman, Batman get 2 per year and Wonder Woman gets 1 per year I'm just gonna go with it like it's true. As I said on the other board I can always sell the Batman ones for a profit when they fall out of print if it was all a gag.
They would probably even pay for Wonder Woman.
Okay, Big time question. I just saw Flash and Superman Golden Age trades and I adored their paper. But also omnibus have more issues and upcoming publishing dates are closer. What do you recommend, guys? Would I go with omnibus or trade?
I think it comes down to how fast you read. In December for Superman you'll be 2 full omnibus behind. If they do do 2 Superman per year you will never catch up. If the program stalls out the paperbacks seem quite popular so in that event I think they would catch up. Flash doesn't seem to have a vol 2 for trade paperback so in December you'll be about 50 issues behind.
Cost is a consideration as well I suppose. As for format preference I prefer oversized art so I go digital and OHC nowadays. Physical trades are no longer my thing even though they have more comfortable reading options than Omnibus. Basically I want to avoid reading glasses for as long as possible
