It's Frank Miller and the god damn Batman. You got violence, you got damsels, you got vigilantes, you got the villains, you have the Justice League. It's nasty and you love it for that. You can read your typical detective story about Batman versus the Gotham Underworld, or you can read something far more unique.

Hell of a sales pitch. I was on the fence before but after seeing this post I will place my order today. If nothing else I can enjoy the amazing Jim Lee art.

Absolute All-Star will be the first big collection I've bought in months. I'm sure it came up in Miller's recent AMA on reddit, and he gets the absurdity of Batman in a way no other writer does and it shows in All-Star

With regards to the Hawkman Omnibus, I'm still waiting on mine. After 60 days if it hasn't materialised,, they cancel it, so I just order it again (for £13.50). It seems a longshot, but hey, they sent me Green Lantern Omnibus for a tenner so who knows

ASBAR really is a hunk of crap but it's a hunk of crap that gets better as it goes along. The sequence posted shows that Miller still has it if he really wants to but the beginning of the series is so over the top that Miller completely blows his point. The fact that it "ended" right when it started pulling together doesn't help things.

Still, Lee's art is phenomenal. As a sequel to Year One it's funny to imagine what it would look like drawn by David Mazzucchelli.
