Good find. Looks like it actually goes further than I originally thought; he's clearly redrawn elements in a lot of those panels.

That article doesn't give a fair chance to the "new" art.. Most of the "new" art pictures there are darker as if the guys arm is in the way blocking the light, which in turn makes it even darker.. The only thing I noticed that seemed worse, was the color of Deadman in that bottom picture a page back.

Am I the only one that thinks Y the last man is an awful comic. It's one of the few titles in my library that I allocated a lot of recent time to. Got to issue 30 something and just couldn't go any further. It was painful getting to issue 10 let alone 30. I bought it due to the excellent reviews. I hope everything I have bought isn't going to be the same let down. Artwork is rubbish too.

I assume the Batman omnibus above is an old title in which case not for me. I might look into Transmet.

I wasn't a big fan of it. I tried reading through it maybe 3 or four times and I always lost interest after a couple of issues. It felt very much like a disaster of the week TV show. There were aspects I liked but overall it never clicked. Ex Machine is a different story though. I loved most of that book.

I didn't have time to find more pages from the original, but the Batman book looks worse in print. The colour palette isn't bad, but I'm just not a fan of recolouring old comics with loads of cheesy gradients and effects. I find it distracts from the linework and just feels inauthentic. The only example I can think of where digital colours have improved things would be Walt Simonson's Thor omnibus.

I agree that Neal did a terrible job "restoring"/re-coloring these books. I'd rather they not use gaudy looking photoshop gradients and just use a flat color pallette, even if they aren't 100% historically accurate--at least they'd look authentic and not like an eyesore. I would prefer a Simonson Thor with the original coloring, however. Looking at the original comics, I've become unhappy with the recoloring and wonder why they did it in the first place? And don't get me started on what they did to Miller's Daredevil omnibus!
