Definitely. That VFX work needs to be on point to not fall apart under visual scrutiny.
Continuity, even in a "shared" comics universe is often insignificant if not largely detrimental to the quality of a comic.

Show creators leave the Netflix series over creative differences.

Well that is disappointing... Even though I didn't think a live action series would ever top the original, I was interested so long as Bryan and Mike were involved. You'd think that forsaken movie would've been enough warning to respect the original creators.

Yeah, this is officially DoA now as far as I'm concerned.

honestly, based on their post ATLA writing track record... this doesn't surprise me at all.

I also don't think it's necessarily an indicator of the quality of the pending series.

I consider DiMartino and Konietschko to be in the same category of creator as George Lucas. they hit a home run early in their career and let it go to their head. that home run couldn't have been possible without some serious input from a lot of other talented people.

the good news is that Korra, relative to ATLA, holds up a lot better than the SW prequels did to the original SW trilogy! but, having watched ATLA and LoK all the way through two or three times each... the writing and fight choreography on LoK are simply inferior to what we were shown in ATLA in a fairly significant number of ways. I've already written about this elsewhere on the forum... so I won't rehash it here.

but, all of this is to say that... their absence on the pending production is not necessarily a death sentence. I think the greater problem is that this probably shouldn't have been attempted to begin with. to really make this effective you would need a LOT of money, a solid cast, and a pretty experienced director and knowledgeable producer. I really doubt that all of these things are going to happen here.

    That’s discomforting.

I'll take a "wait and see" approach to this.

I don't know how reliable they are, but Fandomwire apparently has some details for why the split happened. If the article is to be believed it was due to budget clashes, Netflix wanting to cast white actors when DiMartino and Konietzko said no and Netflix wanting more romance, sex, blood and gore in the series.

Budget I could see. But trying to shoehorn sex, blood, and gore? The guy peddling that is an idiot. Considering Netflix has series like She-Ra, Tales of Arcadia, and many more. Yeah.

Reading that article, none of it made sense. Clearly there were creative differences, but to claim that Netflix wanted to make the series more adult, when Netflix has successful original shows aimed at kids, is ridiculous. And the backlash against the movie for whitewashing the characters is infamous. That article had "Fake" written all over it.

Disappointing, but if anything ultimately comes to fruition I'll likely give it a trailer before passing judgement. Creative differences happen, and it isn't a good look to have the showrunners/creators of the work that is being adapted leave the project. But as Konietzko, and DiMartino have stated plenty of people they hired are still involved with the project, and something palatable isn't out of the question.

    tangentially related:
I thought the first "Ant Man" movie was going to be awful because Edgar Wright left the film (I've enjoyed every Wright movie that I've seen) ... but it still turned out pretty good because the source material was strong. I have never been, and am still not, a big fan of Ant Man as a character. the ONLY reason I was interested in watching the movie at all was because of Wright's involvement. so, when he left over creative differences I skipped watching it in the theater. but, it got good reviews and a lot of my friends liked it so... when watched later on and ... the movie was actually pretty fun.

the "wait-and-see" approach seems best here. let's wait for the first trailer and see how things turn out.
