They certainly do their best to create more of a need for it, if that's what you mean.

Find evidence that disproves what they're saying. It's really not incredibly difficult. Providing what they're saying is factually incorrect, that is.

Ah, the old 'conservatives give more to charity than liberals do!' canard.

Voting is too passive. It's just like writing a check IMO.

Do repairs on a neighbor's house that can't afford to do it themselves. Sacrifice your Christmas to give a family whose parent is in jail a decent Christmas. Help repair a playground that the community has neglected.

Do something physically. Give your time. Sometimes time is more precious than money.

All of that will make quite a difference for the people affected, certainly. Doing things and living your values are important. But voting isn't 'too passive'. It's about the only voice people have /left/ in government.

Demand a living minimum wage from your representatives so your neighbor can afford basic home maintenance.
Seeing as how drug arrests are the most common type of arrest in America, demand from your representatives that marijuana be legalized, so our nation no longer has the highest concentration of incarcerated citizens on the planet.
Demand a property and sales tax rate sufficient that the community playground can be maintained by the city.

Or, at the very least, demand that wealth be taxed. Work, not wealth, is what drives our economy. Hoarded wealth becomes an anchor.

I generally dislike sales taxes because they're pretty regressive.
