That's certainly some of the complaints and controversy, but most of it seems to be based solely on "OMG Muslims" as Paradox says - unless a lot more people are genuinely bothered about animal slaughter than I first thought. I've seen it get linked to how (some) Subways don't sell bacon and pork here. There's definitely a culture war thing going on. (Defenders of halal and kosher argue it's more humane because the animals die quicker, when it's done right, and they won't regain consciousness mid-killing; there seem to be studies both ways)

Thankfully they got their asses handed to them, though that had more to do with the Liberals keeping the focus on the PQ's desire to separate from Canada.

There has also been controversies over the banning of Sikh boys and Muslim girls from playing soccer by the Quebec Soccer Federation (turbans and hijabs make soccer too dangerous for them you see) or about Muslims eating pea soup without pork when visiting Quebec's sugar shacks, and on and on.
So basically, the values of Quebec as they see it are "be white, and the right sort of white".

Again, you have to give a reason: why would going in guns blazing not help rescue the girls? Would the loss of life be too much, is there too great a risk that if you rescue one group all the others will get killed before they're found, would there be a retaliatory attack that'd be much worse than the attacks Boko Haram are going to make etc?

And this just, what, six months after Satanists tried to get a statue built in I think Oklahoma or Ohio, because under the state's own arguments for having a giant Ten Commandments outside a state building they'd have to do it for another religion too.

    God bless those Satanists.

Oklahoma. The debate on that is still going on, and it's great.

Doing things like that is Breead and butter, and they just have to be faster than the communications between ground, Cell Networks and telephone networks have been know to have "glitches" and nobody uses radio where a modern mitary is operating unless they are allowed to or are a modern military

there wiull be casualties, but I don;'t think that alternative are worse than those casualties.

Newsnight showed footage of pro-Russian protestors confronting Ukranian soldiers, then someone in the crowd pulls a gun and fires, then there's more fire and a man goes down - not the one with the gun. We're at that point.

Meanwhile, the separatists are having their referendums anyway and Tartars are claiming they've been beaten up over "identification papers" in Crimea.

Defence Secretary Hammond has asked for a review (it was going to happen in 2018 but he wants it done now) on whether Britain should have women in frontline combat roles.

It's pretty clear he expects the answer to be "yes":

"I think that at a time when the Americans, the Australians, the Canadians, even the French - the Israelis of course for years - have women in their combat arms, this is something we have to look at again," he said.

He said there would be no "compromise" on fitness requirements, highlighting the fact that engineers searching for explosive devices in Afghanistan had to carry loads of 63kg (10 stone) in a combat zones.
We're in a time when Pakistan has female paratroopers, the arc of history seems clear on this one. It's increasingly hard to play the "but physiology!" card (because we know there are women who meet the requirements because they exist in militaries now), leaving us with the principle-of-the-thing that General Lord Dannatt argues. And that's a bit balls.

For a while, the evidence against Rolf Harris seemed a bit flimsy but it's got much worse.

the problem is that there are so few women who meet the requirement, for example in USMC platoon leader training no woman has lasted through the first few weeks, and a couple of them required hospitalzation after trying, just from overstressed bodies
A grunt carries almost a 100 Pounds into combat, and live with that weight o for days on end, what percentage of women do you think can do that

there are jobs in combat for women but many of them are out of reach of any but supremely fit women, fit on a gender neutral, task oriented basis. the US army is trying to come up with gender neutral physical standards for specific jobs, The existing standards for women is to lax for some jobs, and the standard for men means that only a very small percentage of the women that try can even meet minimum standards

But in some jobs women have the physical edge, if you went just on physical abilities almost all fighter pilots would be women

To High Scoll cases from the Southern US

A kid is punished by two idiots that are now likely to pay his way though the college of his choice and buy him a house, Unless they can grovel very well

    http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2014/05/0...nd-for-pledge/

In West Virginia idiots are probably looking at criminal charges, Fedral felony charges, and losing a lawsuit if allegations of failure to report a a sexual assualt are true. When it is bad enough to piss of a very conservative southern AG you know things went very wrong. If they are true the principle and staff involved are likely to pay the kids a bundle

    http://logs.edweek.org/edweek/rulesf...e_reports.html

In both cases sovereign immunity won't protect the scum-bags involved, since if you knowingly violate well established law it normally evaporates
