Government shutdown set to end as House passes sweeping budget bill

I heard the news about the passage of the spending bill while on my way to work, meaning this shutdown lasted all of just under six hours. However, the can has been kicked down the road yet again, this time until March 23rd. Meanwhile....

Republicans Learn to Love Deficit Spending They Once Loathed

The only time Republicans hate the deficit is when a Democrat is in the Oval Office, everybody knows that. But with Deadbeat Don as president right now? Hey, they love spending more than drunk sailors on payday.

Some, yes. Certainly yes. You don't see how that could be possible? Especially when one candidate is making explicitly racist appeals?

They had to get organized -- Obama caught them off guard.

The Republican party responded with the Tea Party while Trump responded with the Birther movement -- McConnell's top priority was not to help this nation recover from the recession that they had caused, but to make Obama a "one-term president".

And now Trump is the head of the Republican party because he best represents exactly what the Republican party has become.

They are more racist with Trump running than McCain or Romney.

Trump has always been a racist. His supporters have to accept that they are racists or have no problem with racism.

Then Trump probably would have stomped Obama in an election, huh?

Nope. Obama didn't have the Russians, voter suppression of this magnitude to deal with. Also a majority did not and probably never will vote for Trump.

He just has just allowed people to be more overtly racist than in recent years. He has supported the racists. Something McCain or Romney would not do.

He is a racist, his supporters are racists or have no problem with it.

Realistically speaking, there's no way of knowing whether Trump could have beaten Obama in a presidential election, especially while running on an overtly racist platform -- McCain defended Obama's honor as a "decent" fellow American while Trump would have played right into said racist and Islamophobic sentiment.

In that respect, an argument might be made that both McCain and Romney simply weren't (overtly) bigoted enough to get their "base" riled up like Trump did.

I think a lot of us would like to imagine that Obama would win an election against Trump, but there's no way of knowing for certain, especially given the nature of the electoral college.

My theory is that Trump's supporters don't give a rat's ass that he's a racist, in fact, they're happy about it. Those knuckledragging scumbags are overjoyed that somebody is finally speaking up for them, standing in their corner against the Blacks, Mexicans and Muslims. Trump has not only made racism acceptable today, but fashionable.

So fashionable that Black Panther is on the cover of Time?
Things I love: Batman, Superman, AEW, old films, Lovecraft

Grant Morrison: “Adults...struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life. Adults foolishly demand to know how Superman can possibly fly, or how Batman can possibly run a multibillion-dollar business empire during the day and fight crime at night, when the answer is obvious even to the smallest child: because it's not real.”

Given the fact that the Republican party has argued that the "liberal media" has been biased against "the right" for years, a rising black movie star being on the cover of a major "liberal media" magazine isn't all that much of a statement against the rise of racism under Trump.

The "media" isn't the voting public -- if nothing else, the last election should have proved that the media is not the best source for judging public sentiment, especially with regards to matters of race.

Even right-wing media icon Bill O'Reilly thought Trump was being too openly racist to win the election -- but Trump proved him wrong.

Predictably, after the stock market as dropped 3,000 points in the past 10 days, Donald Trump has stopped taking credit for how well our economy is doing, and is blaming the falling market on...the media. Because he's enough of a f***ing dolt that he would like us to believe the media can somehow make the stock market surge by clapping their hands hard enough or something.

Marvel movies are the biggest films in that industry right now. The market has spoken.
