I guess it would be better described as a plot then.

I just found it ironic that the editor-in-chief of that particular website was defending her. They usually have no problem pointing out hate, racism, sexism, or bigotry. Not that I am surprised, but it was pretty silly.

In a normal world, Trump never would've made it past the first Republican debate TWO years ago. But, he suckered the rubes (and the schmucks he ran against) with his loud mouth and reality show antics. Trump was the perfect storm of shit for people desperate for a great WHITE hope after eight years of Barack Obama, and he fed them all the b.s. they wanted.

Last night Trump may have hit a new record for most lies told in the shortest amount of time. I'm not sure if anyone is keeping track of the lies per hour but this one had to be up there.

The New York Times runs down all of the falsehoods Trump told at last night's rally. I can only take a few minutes of a Trump rally before I have to switch away to save my sanity. Among the whoppers he told is that he's a bigger draw than Beyonce and Bruce Springsteen. Well, Trumpster the yahoos that go to your rally get in for free. I doubt they would pay the kind of money it takes to go to a Springsteen or Beyonce event. Trump made claims last night that his biggest rallies from 2016 had 20,000 to 49,000 people.

    Among the other whoppers:

He falsely claimed the United States Steel Corporation “is opening up seven plants.”
Russia is unhappy that Trump won. This one he tells a lot even though it was televised to millions when Putin admitted on stage that he wanted Trump to win.

I suspect that the media is borderline fearful of criticizing the military because, to vast swaths of people, particularly the overly patriotic variety, that's akin to not supporting the troops, and that's an albatross the media doesn't want dangling from their necks. Politicians damn sure won't call out the military for wasteful spending, even when it came to that $117 billion dollar budget the Pentagon clearly doesn't need because that's flat out career suicide, especially with midterms right around the corner.

Just like during the campaign, Trump is churning out lies faster than they can be fact checked, thus keeping the media from focusing on one specific item because Trump remains an ever moving target. And besides, to the lemmings who attend his inane rallies, every word that comes out of Caramel Caligula's mouth is the god honest truth. In their tiny little minds, Trump would NEVER lie to them, even when he's doing just that, they're just too damn stupid to know any better, and that's why Trump continues lying to them, because he knows he can get away with that.

In 2014, 2015, 2016, as well as 2017, "Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day" published profiles of Steve Pearce, the sitting U.S. House Representative from New Mexico’s 2nd Congressional District, Pearce is the guy who advised furloughed workers during the 2013 Government Shutdown to just take out payday loans until the whole thing blew over, has written musings about how wives need to remember the importance of “submitting to their husbands”, and actually submitted a bill to drug test welfare recipients on the federal level, in spite of how horribly those programs fail at the state level. As well as, y’know, a pretty consistently terrible voting record. Oh, and back in 2011, Pearce told a group of Republicans at a conference that he thought the idea of men descending from apes was crazy, and thought it much more likely that they were descended from sheep. So there’s that.

Pearce won re-election in the 2016 elections with 62% of the vote against Democrat Merrie Soules, thanks in part to the +5 lean New Mexico’s second has in favor of Republicans. Back in January of this year, there was a bit of an uproar after several members of the GOP were moving to take funding away from the Office of Congressional Ethics, because at this point, the Republican Party isn’t even giving the pretense that they have any. And one of the people leading that charge was Rep. Steve Pearce, who actually defended the move, insisting that his third (yes THIRD) attempt to take away the funding for the OCE would not “gut” the organization, as was being reported. Other, more Democratic members of Congress pointed out that it would actually “kill” the OCE, because they weren’t mincing words.

He then set back to work supporting all the worst legislation the GOP has had to offer in this session of Congress (while also missing more votes than any other member of the New Mexico delegation in Congress):
    • February 16th, 2017: Pearce votes for HJR 69, to make it legal for hunters on wildlife reserves to kill several species of hibernating bears or wolves while they’re sleeping. Because… well, the logic really isn’t there as to why, it’s just awful.
    • March 16th, 2017: Steve Pearce votes for HR 1181, which would allow veterans deemed mentally incompetent to continue to own firearms, and not have them taken away without a judge's written order. We feel safer already.
    • March 28th, 2017: Rep. Pearce votes for SJ Res 34, which allowed internet providers to sell the data information of their customers' internet usage to businesses. Well, so much for privacy.
    • May 4th, 2017: Pearce votes for the House GOP's healthcare plan, that would kick roughly 24 million people off their health insurance plans, allow up to 28,000 more people to die a year, give $50,000 in tax breaks to millionaires, and would eliminate coverage for pre-existing conditions which would include such medical conditions as pregnancy (current or past), postpartum depression, or prior sexual assault.
Oh, and a provision in the bill would make sure that Pearce would be allowed to keep his healthcare plan as it exists under the ACA, which would be repealed for the rest of the country. He and his Republican compatriots threw themselves a beer bash to celebrate taking away healthcare from millions and then gloated about it with Donald Trump at a White House press conference, as well.
    • June 8th, 2017: Steve Pearce votes for HR 10, the GOP’s attempt to repeal Dodd-Frank financial reform, because what the country really needs is to allow the big banks to make the same mistakes that imploded the economy only a decade earlier.
    • September 8th, 2017: Rep. Pearce chooses to be one of 90 Republicans in Congress who votes against disaster relief for Hurricane Harvey.
    • October 3rd, 2017: Pearce votes for HR 36, the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, that would try to create an unconstitutional ban abortion at 20 weeks (even though medical science tells us fetuses do not have the capability to feel pain until 29 weeks).
    • December 19th, 2017: Steve Pearce votes for HR 1, the GOP’s $1.7 trillion tax cut to benefit the wealthiest Americans and corporations permanently that coincidentally also removes the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate and kicks 13 million people off their health insurance.

Steve Pearce decided not to run for re-election to Congress in 2018, and has opted to instead run to be the next Governor of New Mexico at the age of 72. The last time Pearce ran in a statewide race was in 2008, when he ran for U.S. Senate and Tom Udall beat the tar out of him, with Pearce only getting 38% of the vote. Now, in a year that is widely expected to be benefitting Democrats, he’s going to try to win the right to replace Gov. Susana Martinez… and it’s probably not going to go well for Pearce in a state that’s trending more blue all the time, when the Republican Party is looking at a shellacking that could even rival what they faced in the 2006 mid-terms. And, what won’t really won’t help? Someone unearthed video of Steve Pearce speaking at a Republican event back in 2008 where he railed against same-sex marriage, warning that it might lead to “polymorphism” (whatever that means) and that liberal politicians then “can marry everybody in California with AIDS. If that doesn’t sound homophobic enough, Pearce continued grousing over the idea that healthcare funding might in any way go towards patients being treated for AIDS. Not surprisingly, that means he’s trailing Democrat Michelle Lujan Grisham in their November tilt.

We’re hoping that this race is Steve Pearce’s last, and he goes down in flames before calling it a career.

I actually find the NYT will do everything NOT to call any blatantly racist thing "racist." It's just like with the word "lie" - they will bend over backwards calling something "racially charged" or "what some people say might be racially insensitive" to avoid being seen as taking a side.

The bizarre thing is he could have told the truth, and come out of the affair looking good. It just seems that the strategy of honesty never occurs to him.

On BBC website, their fact checker..having looked at agreed schedules and exact timings for the day now feels that the Donald arrived precisely on time, but the Queen had decided to arrive early. Possibly to demonstrate respect for the Presidency.

All he had to say was something like “I arrived exactly on time as requested, but the Queen had arrived early to show her great respect for America”...and it’s win/ win reflecting well on both the Queen and himself.

Instead he creates a fiction about waiting 15 mins for Queen, and ends up looking a wee bit of a sad case.
