    Default Jupiter's Legacy

I haven't read any of these issues. I remember some serious hype when it came out... what was it? last year?

My shop has the "giant sized" issue which is basically a mini trade of issues 1-3

I was thinking about getting it. Aren't they on like #5 still after a year? Just wanted some opinions on this...

So far only four issues has been published, and all of them, except #1, in 2014 (IIRC). The series is not a year old yet, but the latter issues have been delayed. As for getting the series, I would recommend it, if you like Millar's type of stories. Personally I think it is one of his best series.

It reads like a really conscious amalgamation of everything else Millar's done in superhero comics--the politics, the celebrity quality, the history, the alternating veneration and criticism of the 'classic' model superhero, the conspiracies, the idea of superheroes as a symbol for America, shit unquestionably hitting the fan by the end (he's claimed, in typical Millarian fashion, that the concluding issue #10 will have the biggest fight scene in any superhero comic ever), the revisionist touches combined with the appreciation for traditional superheroics, etc. It's a fun comic, and would absolutely be worth your time and money even without the gorgeous Quitely artwork, but not his best work by any stretch; he's covered most of the material in here better in the likes of Ultimate X-Men, The Ultimates and Superman: Red Son.

It's solid but, alas, it's written by Millar and, worse still, drawn by Quiteley. Which means it'll be worth a read but was guaranteed from the get-go to be crippled by delays.

At the moment, Image's site is saying July 2nd for #5 to come out, but who knows? It was supposed to come out once every two months and coming out in July would mean 4 months between issues.

"(the concluding issue #10 will have the biggest fight scene in any superhero comic ever)"?
I think that dubious distinction will ever remain with Scott McCloud's "Destroy", which was such a big fight-scene comic that it had to be 'contained' in a comic book 11" by 15" in size. pardon me, IN SIZE!!!!!!!

JUPITER'S LEGACY is well worth it, as is STARLIGHT. They're the best books Millar has done in years, with two of the best artists in the biz.
