Eternals: Gemma Chan's Sersi Is the Main Character—Sort Of
Kevin Feige says Gemma Chan's Sersi is the de facto lead of Eternals and the diversification of the source material led to the movie being greenlit.

Her being the lead isn't surprising considering she's the most well-known Eternal and was actually an Avenger, versus the much more obscure remainder of the characters

Black Panther 2 Rumored to Cast Tenoch Huerta as Namor

Everything about Marvel's Black Panther sequel remains a mystery, but the one persistent notion around the rumor mill is that the film will include Namor the Sub-Mariner as its villain. The character has been a constant rival to Wakanda in the comics, so his appearance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever makes a lot of sense. This week, a new report from The Illuminerdi takes the talk of Namor's inclusion one step further, claiming that the character has already been cast by Marvel Studios.

According to The Illuminerdi, Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta will be taking on the role of Namor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Huerta is best known for his work on Netflix's Narcos: Mexico and in the acclaimed horror film Tigers Are Not Afraid. The actor will be seen this summer in The Forever Purge, the newest installment in the Purge franchise.

Atlantis, the underground kingdom ruled by Namor, often finds itself at odds with Wakanda in the comics. That said, there are other rumors out there suggesting that the MCU's take on Atlantis will first be seen in Eternals, which hits theaters this November.

Of course, at this point in time, everything regarding Black Panther 2 is a rumor. Nothing is official until it is revealed or confirmed by Marvel Studios. Given the release date for the new Black Panther movie, however, that news should be coming sooner, rather than later. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is currently scheduled to hit theaters in July 2022. That's just a little over a year away. Cameras haven't even started rolling yet. So there is a lot of work to do on the new film and not a ton of time to do it. That means the start of production, and some official news, should be just around the corner.

Anybody else notice how Phastos is missing from most group promo shots, but they wanted to make sure we knew he was gay. Anybody?

Didn't notice, but if I'm being completely honest, the irony makes me laugh.

Phastos is the Eternal counterpart to the Greek god, Hephaestus, who was one of the most unappreciated and abused gods. In some myths, he was born dark and imperfect with a foot deformity, and so his mother, Hera, threw him off of Olympus, rejecting him in infancy. In other myths, it was Zeus that was responsible for Hephaestus' broken form when he threw Hephaestus off of Olympus after Hephaestus attempted to protect his mother from either a violently enraged or an amorously impassioned Zeus. Hephaestus fell for days, suffering an irremediable injury upon crashing to Earth. And then there was Aphrodite, who cuckolded him on multiple occasions with various mortals and gods, including his brother. And in other myths still, there was that debacle on his honeymoon night with the goddess Athena, who wed him reluctantly and ultimately only because Zeus commanded her to do so. But she bailed on Hephaestus in true runaway bride fashion the very first night that they were to spend together.

As the god of blacksmiths and fire, Hephaestus made countless items of unprecedented beauty and utility for the gods. Yet no matter what he made or did, the gods never seemed to love him back in return. I sense a theme.

So if you're now observing that Phastos, the coequal of Hephaestus, who is now adaptationally Black and LGBTQ+, is not getting the same spotlight as some of the other characters ... well, all I can do is laugh, if true. Poor Hephaestus can't catch a break.
