Default Superman Unchained continues to get great reviews

I think this will make a fantastic trade paperback in everyone's collections. It's only been the delays that have hurt this, but once people can get a hold of the entire series I bet it will be a tremendous Superman story.

    The Reviews are wonderful.

Superman by Johns and Unchained are the two best selling books.

And they both have the old 52 status quo. Goes to go show what actually works. Lobdell and not even Grant Morrison nu52 have maintained the steady sales. Early to say with Johns/Romita but I'm sure it'll hold out.

True but the collected trades of his run had some good sales, mostly because his run is better read in trade than monthly issues, which was the weakest point of his run, still loved it though.

Lobdell's run wasn't very good in my opinion.

No matter how many reboots, new origins, reinterpretations or suit redesigns. In the end, he will always be SUPERMAN

    Tell that to Grant Morrison.

His books do have their quirks, but they were alright. Certainly a lot better than Lobdell.

Morrison's name has never brought sales the way Lee and Johns consistently do.

I mean it's true. Morrison will obviously draw more people in than someone unheard of, but the kind of success Johns and Lee have on name alone is basically unparalleled. See Aquaman or something derided like Superman For Tomorrow.

I don't think this proves anything except that if you combine good story and good art with a flagship character like Superman, people will take notice. I will concede though that a "more traditional" take on Superman will draw a lot of notice as truth be told that sort of thing has been few and far between for the past decade (and that also includes the Pre-New 52 as well.) It almost feels like an event when they decide to do a straightforward Superman story utilizing the classic supporting cast and classic elements.

I'd like to thank this forum for reminding me that this book still exists.

Obviously the constant delays haven't helped, but the plot of this thing was just unmemorable and lazy.

    Pretty much.

Apologies for not responding with an uncaptioned picture.

Superman by Johns does not use the old status quo. Reviewers are trying to peddle the same line but are just as wrong. Makes me wonder just what you guys are reading.

Maybe people see vague similarities between Johns' early run and Unchained?

I don't even know what it means in this context to say Johns' run has the "old 52 status quo."

Yeah, really. I never hear about it anywhere else online or in the LCS.
