The show does seem to have a lot of money for sets too. Just look at about every set, the dive bar, Kara's apparment, the DEO, CatCo. Filled with all sorts of background objects.
Even sets with maybe only 10 minutes of screentime, such as the Hoecean freighter, are rich in details and background objects. Also lots of side characters are rich in detail. Especially
the dive bar. There will be background actors as aliens that maybe get 3 seconds of screen time wearing make-up and prosthetics that probably took an hour or more to apply.
Yeah considering their backgrounds it does make sense they would act like that.

Yeah the CW definitely isn't skimping on cash for the show the costumes look expensive too SG's costume looks like the same material from the MOS movies. The episode when they went off-world to find the missing girl looked good too. They must have really spent money on the finale with all those aliens fighting and explosions/fight effects.

    Watsonian explanation: what Osiris-Rex said.
Doylist explanation: he's a 25 year old in a CW show and surprisingly mature by that standard.

They did lay it on a little thick with Superman saying Kara was Earth's champion now and how she was so much stronger than he'll ever be.....oh boy.

And the choked up,teary moment monologues are getting a little redundant (pause) I...jus..just didn't..know if (pause) you would "sob" C'mon man!lol

Gotta say maybe James dodged a bullet not being with Kara because she is so immature her and Mon-El were running around, going back and forth like a little jhs couple! I started wonder if Mon-El really is 13 in a 25 year olds body. Damn dude grow up! But I guess that's more her speed....

But all in all a very entertaining ride great finale and they got more action on this show than some of the guy shows wtf.
Can't really agree with that, season 2 kind of seemed like they were trying to do some sort of multiple story arc that all tied together in the end but made little effort for any of it to be compelling. I mean, who was even the real of villain of that season? Cadmus? Rhea? Both? None? It just all felt like a random, disjointed mess and part of the reason I believe it came off like that was because they lacked real focus on what they wanted this season to look like.

Having it be a big alien invasion at the end was problematic. Basically they were trying to do a "overcoming prejudice, don't judge a book by it's cover" thing, which is fine. But then by the end, the message (unintentionally I'm sure) ends up being "well Kara's prejudices were right. Mon-el kind of changed, but Daxam itself was every bit the toxic culture that Kryptonian bias said that it was." And it also (again unintentionally I'm sure) painted Cadmus as being right. It's really simply, don't play up Lillian Luthor and Cadmus going "aliens are evil, and then make the final big bad climax to the season be an ALIEN INVASION! It just doesn't work together.

Save the Daxam stuff for later, or take a different approach to Cadmus.

Season 2 was, unbalanced. When it was good, it was better than Season 1. But when it was off, it was worse than Season 1 (which was more consistent overall imo). And they set up multiple intriguing storylines, but didn't pay them off all that well:

    -Mon-el's character growth was haphazard.
-J'onn getting over his prejudice of White Martians was sloppily portrayed.
    -James as Guardian, same deal.
    -Jeremiah's betrayal, underwhelming.
    -Etc.

I didn't hate Season 2, it did quite a few things well I thought. But hopefully Season 3 is more focused and consistent.

Also just as an aside, since they're using Reign this season, I hope that we get something like this:

At some point. We haven't had a villain who's truly felt like a physical threat to Kara in a long time. And seeing her get completely destroyed (ala Zoom destroying Flash in Season 2 of that show) could really raise the stakes.

I get the idea the producers sort of make up stuff as the go along. When they found they could get Teri Hatcher they just had to do something big with her. So it ended up making the story fit the actor
instead of making the actor fit into the previous existing story. I think too not knowing if the show would be cancelled and finding out the show was moving from CBS to the CW at the last minute
may have played a role in the disjointed nature. Getting used to a different set of standard the CW has as compared to CBS. Now that things are more stable maybe there will be more planning.

That's why I don't really like shows doing a serialized all season long story. If the story is bad it ends up ruining the whole season, like Arrow season 4. I'd prefer if they went back to doing stories that
were self contained in an episode or two, like they used to do back in the olden days with shows like the Adventures of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman. What people now derisively call filler episodes.
You could watch the episodes of these shows in no particular order and each one was enjoyable on its own.

They just have to show this in a scene at some point in time. Even though it happened in the ruins of Argo City in the comic books and no one else saw it,
they just have to have Alex, J'onn, Winn, James find her like that. They are blowing it big time if they don't.

I dunno maybe because I binge watched season 2 it seemed more consistent to me. It just felt like they knew were they were going more with each character whereas season 1 there was a lot back and forth. This season had an overall theme with the alien immigration where by the end there was no simple answer both sides had legitimate points.

Agreed. Heck have all of National City see it (on TV). It'd be a great "oh crap" cliffhanger for the midseason finale for example.

It looks like Kara has fully embraced Daxam's mourning weeds.

Really in-depth article from cbr.com about Lena in Season 3:

    http://www.cbr.com/supergirl-season-3-kara-lena-luthor/

Supergirl: Benoist, McGrath Tease Changes for Kara & Lena’s Friendship

    08.24.2017
    by Meagan Damore

Though she was introduced just last year, Lena Luthor has quickly become an important part of Supergirl. The scientist and budding mogul made fast friends with Kara Danvers and has even publicly shown her support of Supergirl, despite her brother Lex’s infamous vendetta against Superman and her mother’s hatred of aliens. Though Lena and Kara had their ups-and-downs over the course of Season 2, their friendship remained steadfast right up to the finale, where Lena was forced to release lead into the atmosphere and banish Kara’s Daxamite boyfriend Mon-El from the planet. At Comic-Con International in San Diego, Supergirl actress Melissa Benoist and Katie McGrath, who plays Lena, teased that there may be some changes in store for the two unlikely friends in Season 3.

“I think Luthor and Super relationships are always the most interesting stories in a Super comic,” Benoist shared. “I think, especially with Lena and Kara and how close they are, how they relate to each other as women, what they’ve been through with their families, what they’ve lost, is a really strong foundation for that connection. So I’m excited to see where it goes. It’s precarious, too. It’s kind of teetering on a really small ledge.”

“Do you think she’s ever going to figure out the truth? Don’t you kind of want her not to, though? Part of the magic of the show is there’s got to be one person who believes they’re two different people, even though they’re exactly the same,” McGrath mused. “Everybody else knows! Isn’t it nice to have one person who’s the complete fool? Do you know what I mean? It’s the magic of the comic book show, is that people don’t know that Kara and Supergirl are the same person. If everyone believes it, then how can you disbelieve it, if that makes any sense? So I kind of don’t want Lena to find out!”

Asked if there would be any tension between the two in Season 3, McGrath said, “I think more, actually, Lena feels guilty, more guilty because of what she did to Mon-El. So, when it comes with her relationship with Kara, she’s very worried the fact that she played a part in sending Mon-El away has damaged her friendship with Kara because, for Lena, the most important relationship she has at the moment is with her best friend, because her mother is, you know, crazy and disappointed her again. So her relationship with Kara is very important, and her relationship with Supergirl is more of a respect and more of a ‘you are our savior and I think you’re amazing,’ but it’s a true friendship with Kara. So I think that’s where it starts at Season 3, but where it ends up? We’ve got a whole lot of episodes to figure it out. It’s going to change. It has to.”

McGrath also posited how Lena would react to finding out that Kara was Supergirl all along. “See, this is the number one question I get asked, and I’ve been thinking about it. You know, I don’t think she’d have a problem at all with her being an alien. I think she’d have a problem with her best friend having lied to her,” she explained. “I think that’s going to be the issue if it ever happens, is that ‘I don’t care who you are! I care that you didn’t trust me. You’re the same as everybody else. You didn’t trust a Luthor. You always told me you did.’ And I think that would be difficult for her, because you’ve seen that Lena doesn’t have a problem with aliens. I think her best friend lying to her and treating her… she discovers that she thinks that… that would, I think, break her.”

“I think I’m sort of cursed with being a Luthor, but in a way that makes it kind of interesting because you’re not just one note,” she added. “You’re not just the good guy. The best characters are flawed, and the best characters are the bad guys with hopes of redemption and the heroes with a dark side. So, to be able to do that for me and as an actor and I think as a viewer, it’s the most interesting thing. So people want to believe I’m eventually going to become bad? I’m like, ‘Alright! I’ll show you’re wrong, or I’ll prove you’re right.’ Who knows?”

As to her favorite part of Lena’s friendship with Kara, McGrath said, “About how supportive they are of each other. I mean, I know me and my best friend — I don’t know about any of you — but if my best friend rang me up and was like, ‘I murdered a puppy,’ I’d be like, ‘Puppy deserved it.’ You know what I mean? It’s that kind of thing. It’s that, in their eyes, they can do no wrong and I think you don’t get that a lot in TV. You don’t get the idea of proper females supporting each other, not being catty, not being bitchy and not having any other agenda other than ‘I just want you to be okay.’ I think that, for me, is the most important part of their relationship is that it is about the other person just wanting you to be alright, and whatever I can do to do that.”

Executive producers Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner also confirmed that Lena’s struggle with her family’s evil legacy will continue in Season 3. “We love having Katie [McGrath] as a series regular this season and she’ll be more central in the show, but I think one of the central issues about Lena is that she comes from this family of bad guys and I think her journey is — and we’ve see her grapple with it in Season 2 — is she on the side of good or is she on the side of bad?” Rovner explained. “So we’ll continue that journey with her this season.”

“Will she fulfill the evil legacy of her family name? Is she like a ticking time bomb?” Queller added. “We’ll see which way she’s going to go.”

Returning to The CW on Monday, October 9th at 8 p.m. ET/PT, Supergirl stars Melissa Benoist as the Girl of Steel, David Harewood as Martian Manhunter, Mehcad Brooks as Jimmy Olsen, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers and Jeremy Jordan as Winn Schott, with appearances by Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant and Tyler Hoechlin as Superman.

I thought it was clear she was press secretary but maybe not a good one thus expecting to be fired. Though perhaps fire away meant ask questions
Stick "we work together and we get out of here alive"
