Aren't the two in completely different weight divisions? Takamura is in a pretty big disadvantage here.

takamura fought a bear and won. in fact, he killed it and wore its skin to the ring during his title matches.

The opponent for Ippo's eighth Japanese title defense, Kojima Hisato, could only use his left fist due to damage to his right hand. This guy could deliver a left hook that measured at 1900 kilograms of force.

This was a guy competing for the nation's featherweight belt. Maths, do them.

Takamura, incidentally, is a middleweight for fights only. His natural weight is ninety kilograms, or a shade under 200#. He should be competing at cruiserweight or heavyweight, but has never been able to because there was no competition in those weight-classes in Japan.

Junior middle-weight Takamura would literally blitz and one-shot Ivan before he could understand what happened. Takamura was considered to be as fast or even faster than Miyata at this weight. Zooming around the ring so fast most people can't understand what's going on is more than enough for Drago.

Middle-weight Takamura probably still just overwhelms Drago in speed. Taka's a middle-weight and Drago is heavy. Likewise, I don't recall much in the movie to indicate Drago had class breaking speeds. Dragon goes down after one hit to the jaw, or a few hits in the body.

We also know that Takamura has a guard-breaker which he uses to start a combo. If Takamura lands a big one, its over. Also up for contention is his "animal mode," as shwon in his fight against Brian Hawk. Turning Takamura's brain off is not a very good idea, as it'll lead to him trying to kill his opponent on instinct alone.
