    Default X-Relationships...

It’s possible that this has been done to death, or I’ve inadvertently missed the “one-stop-all-x-relationship-sticky-tabbed” post. I was hoping to hear some various thoughts people have on various x-relationships. Topics could include, but aren’t limited to (and tangents are generally welcome…anything that gets ideas/opinions flowing) –

Relationships you liked? Relationships you didn’t like? Relationships you missed?

I’m big on asking and probably not as strong as sharing, so I’ll start with what got me thinking of this –

I got into comics initially back in the mid to late 80s, and I was drawn to the X-men more than other characters/books at the time. I think I got into it after Secret Wars, but I’m not entirely possible. I was probably between 10 and 12, so relationships didn’t mean a lot. That said, I was a sucker for Colossus and Kitty Pryde at the time. Some people may have hated (feel free to say so), but they just seemed so right to me to be together.

Then Secret Wars came along. Potential spoilers if you are going back (and I’m working on memory) to read and don’t know the story –

Colossus goes to this world Beyonder sets up but Kitty doesn’t. Colossus gets hurt, and gets healed by this alien lady. He gets smitten by her and no matter how hard he tries, he sees this lady instead of Kitty. I think Colossus then breaks up with Kitty upon returning home. I remember being so mad at the time. I hated that alien for ruining these two. I think because it was done well – happens to a lot of young people that fall in and out of love (even if it’s not an alien-induced-Florence-Nightingale scenario) – but oh I was unhappy with it. (By the early 90s I was out of comics, until the New 52. The next characterization I have of the two, is Phoenix-powered Colossus failing to woo Kitty in AvX, and then both Emma and Kitty later agreeing that they both had idiot boyfriends in the past…so it’s possible more happened between the two in the interim.)

SCEMMA NEEDS to come back, with a 300% increase of attention on Emma. The girl deserves it.
Kitty and Colossus, with Colossus willing to live for her, like she said.

Scott and Emma can start having kids as well.

Emma who I could never see having nor caring for children (to be fair I don't know her that well so that could be a mischaracterization)
Scott who has certainly procreated enough to produce a whole host of offspring in alternate dimensions, but hasn't really been a father to any...

I like Scott and Emma together. So that's not a shot, would be fun to explore that side of them. They go from broken...to patching things up...to marriage and children...

For anyone seeking a Cyclops/Emma relationship at this point, just watch old re-runs of Two and a Half Men. It's basically the same thing. A pretty boy lead and a pretty girl who just makes a few witty remarks, coupled with a few raunchy scenes every now and then. That's about all Cyclops/Emma ever amounted to after Joss Whedon left. It should never come back. It had its moments, but then it devolved to the point where it had the depth of a porno. That's not a good basis for a relationship. I would rather see more Storm/Wolverine or Kitty/Starlord at this point.

I don't miss any pairing when it comes to sexual relationships but I do miss the freindships the X-men used to have.
The original X-men, especially when they became X-Factor, are friendships and familial interactions that I miss seeing.
Now it seems there are just teammates whom bark and snip at one another every chance they get and there does not seem to be the companionship and love which was a foundation between the X-men. Back in the day (let me grab my cane and rocker), it was exciting to see a random alternate X-character show up in a book because you knew it was going to touch on a friendship or show a fun team-up piece. Today if you see a guest star it means a battle is going to happen or they are going to "have it out and one will be forever changed".
I don't necessarily want to see them go back to the same old same old, but it would be nice to bring just a little compassion back to the titles and not only have relationships present that revolve around characters having "relations".

True. Scott and Emma, especailly with Emma having been so iffy with Namor, the Dark X-men etc...her time has passed.
I would also really like to see a series of stories where Storm and Cyclpos begin to repair their relationship. He has not done anything to make her so bitter toward him and it would be nice to see the 2 leaders on a longer mission where they renewed their respect and comraderie for one another. At this point in the stories it really is a one sided Schism, with Cyclpos being mostly respectful in his appearances at the JGS and stating he misses the wayward chacraters and the JGS people snarling and spitting. If Wolverine dies and leaves his side of the bed (or sink, or basketball court) with her maybe that can start. As long as James is in her ear I do not see them repairing it at this point.

In terms of friendship, I am a huge fan of Jean and Ororo's sisterly bond. One of the things I was really disappointed in is the lack of Storm's involvement over anything Jean related after her so called "death" by the hands of fake Xorn. They were best friends, they were very close. And now that teen Jean is around, I really wish teen Jean had been able to absorb Storm's memories without interruption just to see the magnitude of how deep their bond was.

I miss the relationship between Scott and Jean before the Twelve storyline. It may have been boring to many, but to me it is was a breath of fresh air in a society where divorce and infidelity are common.

I miss the relationship between Forge and Storm.

I miss Remy and Rogue-- blame it on the 90's cartoon.

Relationships that I would like to see develop:

Teen Jean and Teen Angel- only because Angel has always had feelings for Jean and in the end she went with Scott. I have a feeling that teen Jean will be with Scott in the end, but wouldn't it be interesting if Jean and Warren had a chance in the beginning, as in Jean's first love instead of Scott?

Storm and Nightcrawler: Since Wolverine is going to "die" there is no one else other than Kurt that I would like to see Ororo with, especially since it is obvious that Kurt has always had feeling for her.

Adult Scott and Emma reminds me of the relationship between Olivia Pope and the President Grant from SCANDAL. It is carnal and lots of sex, but the lack of trust, the infidelity, the lies, and each's own agendas makes that relationship full of drama but doomed from the start.

I would also like to see Anole get a boyfriend.

Let Cyke have his harem. He hasn't had one in awhile.

Besides, it'll be funny to see how Rachel reacts when she finds out that Eva, a girl around her age, is possibly sleeping with her alternate father.

Interesting points. Colossus and Kitty was fun because it felt like the old note-passing-did-she-say-she-like-liked-me days in the midst of coping with powers and villains. There was still some innocence to it all.

As for the non-sexual relationships (which I didn't consider, but are fair game), I think I see what you mean. I think it really helps flesh out characters. While I'm almost exclusively into the super hero genre, there is still plenty of opportunities to develop those things.

Thanks. I don't think I ever read the Twelve. Sounds like it might be worth checking out?

As for Scott and Emma, was there a time (someone mentioned Whedon's run) where it was different? I think that I came at a time that was close to the end for them, so I probably saw more of what you described.

Never cared for Scott/Emma much. Its always struck me as a doomed to fail scenario as well. The best thing for her character and material would be to break free from that and go off on her own imo. Emma's been a cheerleader for too long. Scotty can start banging Eva or something.

As for the kids, I would like to see Tyke/Jeen just for the sake of history. Can tug on some of those "good ol day" strings without risking the ever dreaded "permanent" in the marvel U.

As some others have mentioned, id like some friendships to be revisited too. Jean/Storm especially.

While her relationship with Cyke helped Emma initially, it pretty much wrecked the character after a while. I don't miss it. She needs development on her own first.
I don't miss Scott + Jean either. This bland wonderbread slice of a relationship OMG... I enjoyed the Cyclops / Logan dynamic before Schism though.

I miss Storm's interactions with Yukio and Gambit.

    Colossus and Callisto
    Wallflower and Renascence.
    Prodigy and Surge.
    Storm and Forge.
    Storm and Forge.
    Gambit and Storm.
Storm and the girls (such as shame what happened to Wood's run)

Can't gun for Storm and Jean anymore until Storm finds out how Jean stabbed her in the back.

While i do like the Scott/Jean relationship, my only problem with it is that there wasn't much development to their romance, they were already established as a couple from the very beginning and they were always annoyingly lovey dovey all the time (especially in TAS) and remained a boring status quo couple for a long time. But the reason i like them together is because they were one of those rare dedicated couple who truly loved one another, until Morrison completely trashed their characterizations. The best interpretation of this relationship was in X men Evolution (also the best incarnations of Scott and Jean in my opinion) where there was some real development to their romance, where they began as best friends, who were dating other people, it was fun watching their relationship develop as the chase is much more thrilling than the fruit when it comes to watching romance in my opinion, and i have a feeling that Bendis may be playing a similar game with O5 Scott and O5 Jean in 'All New X-Men', maybe as a way of rediscovering their relationship, he is definitely going to explore other relationships for O5 Scott and O5 Jean for now, play a long game with it and maybe by the end of this O5 arc they might somehow get together, hopefully. Bendis played a similar game with Peter Parker and Mary Jane in Ultimate Spiderman, but seeing as they didn't exactly have a happy ending, its hard to say if its gonna end well for O5 Scott and O5 Jean.
