The problem is there are too many people who believe if you're on the other side of the political divide, you must be either evil, stupid, and/or crazy. It's impossible to have a meaningful conversation at that point. Mot that you're point doesn't have merit, of course.

When one side is promoting hurting people or taking peoples rights away for bodily autonomy then yeah its rather easy to see why you'd call them evil.

The problem is there are very few people who are willing to meet in the middle. If you are a Republican you are viewed as a homophobic, racist, Trump backing nut job. if you are a Dem you are viewed as a socialist fanatic who wants to give the country away to the Latinos and Muslims.

People wont work together. It is no longer about working together to see how you can help the country, but rather trying to make sure the other guy does not push his agenda and programs. I have never seen the country so divided. It makes me sad.

    Ask yourself though:
When Democrats are in power, do they do any of those things?

When Republicans are in power, they do. Muslim ban, trans military ban, laws regulating women's bodies, anti science, anti LGBT laws.

Both siding is so insane these days, no offense. The proof is in the pudding.

Im not saying that the Republicans by far not the perfect party. They have done some bad things in the past. But Dems are not the perfect party either. They have done and are talking about doing things I am not happy with. What I was tying to say is that people of both sides look at the worst of the other party assume that is all they are and refuse to work together on anything. Even non controversial topics like infrastructure or education are fought over with such hatred.

Exactly my point. There are enough people on both sides who feel those opposite of them are beyond redemption, so how can you be civil to each other when you have that mindset? The answer is you can't and both sides get further entrenched in regard to their own worldview. Yes, there are Hitler and Stalin Juniors out there, but regardless of what some people might say, they're a tiny minority. The rest of us, despite our own flaws, can be capable of friendly discourse if given a chance.

Of course, if you think you know it all and history will attest to that in the future (just like many of our ancestors thought we would do about them ), our words will fall on deaf ears.

Just name some examples of extremist legislation and executive orders passed by the Dems.

Then go through the list presented to you of things Republicans have wrought upon the world.

You cannot honestly compare the two. Only dishonestly.

I am not going to list everything the Republicans have done wrong. i have stated that they have. i know that they have. I know the Dems have the better track record on many things. I am not defending the Republican party. I am just saying that there are many things about the Dems I dont like. I am saying that many Republicans have a view of Dems that make them unwilling to work with the dems because they assume all Dems are like that. And I am saying that the Dmes think that all Republicans are the same and therefor are unwilling to work with any of them, even those who are in the middle.

My point was that both sides have a view of the other and because of that refuse to work with each other. I was not defending one party over the other. I was not comparing their human rights records. I was pointing out that both sides have closed minded people when it comes to members of the other party.

Well, I guess it's unfair to expect you to do anything that shows that your argument is bullshit.

    How is my Argument bullshit?

I Am not defending the Republicans. I am not bashing the Dems. I am just saying both sides are closed minded about the members of other parrties. Are you saying that is not true? Are you saying Republicans give Dems a fair chance? Are you saying every Dem gives a Republican a fair chance? I have stated several times that Dems have a better track record on may things. Is bullshit that I dont agree with everything they do? I dont agree with a lot of what the Republicans do. Is that Bullshit as well?

Okay let's talk infrastructure and Education. Democrats would like to rebuild our failing infrastructure and keep public Education funded. Republicans idea is to turn over infrastructure to private companies and allow them to charge whatever they want for people to drive on them. NOT improve and rebuild on the ones we have. They also want to de-fund Amtrak. Trump has proposed one project, his asinine Wall.
On Education, the GOP wants to take money from Public Schools and give it to Religious Schools or for profit Charter Schools, which have not shown to improve education, just makes poor schools poorer. I will say that the Democratic idea of free public college is controversial.

    Where is the middle ground?

I dont like the public college idea at all. Turning over infrastructure to private companies is not a good idea at all. They have to work for a middle ground there but wont do it. I didnt know they wanted to defund Amtrack. I am fairly new to politics and am still learning many things. I was not saying that one sides ideas on the two topics are better then the other. I was just saying that those two subjects are not as controversial as the other topics they face every day and that both sides are still not able to work together.

Again i am not defending Republican policies. I have stated they are wrong on many things. My point was that both sides have to work together to get things done but neither side is willing. its my way or the high way on both sides.

I am not comparing track records, I am not comparing ideas. I am not wanting to get into a debate about policies.

My original point which seems to have been lost or misunderstood was that neither side seems to be willing to compromise on ideas and come together.

Everytime you unironically write the words "both sides" on the Internet, a kid in a cage dies of the flu somewhere.

What I am saying is it the GOP who will not work with Democrats. Obama chose to base the ACA on Republican ideas instead of Medicare for all, and then watered it down further to get any GOP support, and not a single GOP Senator voted for it.
The House Democrats have passed hundreds of bills, with bi-partisan support on most, and McConnell has refused to bring up one in the Senate.
It is one side destroying the country.
