Article III of the Constitution specifies that all United States federal judges, "shall hold their Offices during good Behavior".
Because the founding fathers probably believed that their should be at least on branch of the government that should be more constant then the others. Turnover in government is a good thing but it can be a bad thing, because humans are prone to fads and group think, and the branches of government that are popularity driven are prone to being corrupted by mob mentality. The judiciary is suppose to be the level head of the three branches. The one that is supposed to think in the long term rather then four and eight year cycles.

And they are suppose to rule on the law and the Constitution, not at the whims of the electorate. Of course we now have a Court that rules on the whims of their corporate masters.

I've often wondered if The Founders assumed the Justices just wouldn't live long enough for it to be a problem. There were some long tenures, even in the very early rosters, but a lot of those guys died or retired early in the their terms (like five years or so). Moreover, it seems unlikely that The Founders expected SCOTUS to take on the expansive role it does today. That began in The Marshall Era, and really amplified during The Civil Rights Era.

The Founders couldn't have imagined drone warfare or nuclear weapons, the effect of automation on industry and the globalization of the economy, or computers, the internet and effing social media ... I'm pretty rock solid on that last one, because I still don't get social media, but I am aware nonetheless that modern politics has to account for it.

Anyway, point being that trying to govern as the founders intended is a lost cause, if you're trying to be technical about it. The spirit is the best you can go for ... and, that's going to be up for interpretation.

I'm saying, I think we need to re-do this entire thing, pretty well.

It seems to me that quite a lot of the laws governing how the USA is supposed to be governed was set down in wishy-washy non-binding, non-legal language by people who didn't think it possible that somebody of ill intent and a desire to not follow the intent of the guidelines could ever get into public office.

You realise that this would simply mean no more judges, right?

Until Mitch McConnell went nuclear with High Court picks, you needed 60 votes. But the GOP is all about win by any means.

    Um. No.

That was actually Democratic Senator Harry Reid
. While there's plenty to blame McConnell for (way more than plenty), he's not the source of all evil. This zero-sum two-party structure supported by opaque campaign financing enables this "by any means" environment.

Reid changed it for the lower Court when the GOP obstructed every Obama pick. But not for the Supreme Court. McConnell went nuclear for the Supreme Court.

It could be that like Socialism and Communism, Democracy is one of those systems that only works on paper.
None of them seem to account for human greed.

For a non-political controversial opinion, I'm going to say that the most accurate portrayal of Hades came from, of all places, the Kevin Sorbo Hercules TV show and it's Xena spinoff. I won't say best, but it is the only one I have yet to see where Hades isn't competing for the title of Most Evil Scummer In The Universe.

    True, true.

Hell (haha), Hades isn't even supposed to be really an evil guy to begin with. (save for a little kidnapping but eh, who never abducted a woman in Greek mythology right?)

His bro Poseidon has a way worst temper.
