I sort of tuned out of the wrestling world starting with the merger (no competition started to lead to a lesser product, though the match-ups between the companies' stables was worth watching for a few years) and ending almost entirely when my favorite wrestler killed his wife, killed his son, then killed himself.
That said, this was the era where Cena made his big push into the spotlight and I think I know where the resentment comes from (at least from that era, as I cared enough to talk about it with fellow fans). Cena is the new Hulk Hogan. He's more skilled (you kind of have to be), but he's Disney. He has no edge. He plays like he does, and compared to Hogan in his prime he might, but fans who grew up on the Stone Colds, Rocks, HHHs, etc. want more. What's worse? Anyone who remembers his rise in popularity knows he's capable of it. As good as the Rock in his prime at smack talk. At least, he was.
I don't blame him. It's better for his brand to stay a babyface. And it's sort of admirable he hasn't done the "now I'm a heel, now I'm the hero" game that so many have since the mid-'90s. I mean, he started off as a heel (well, sort of as a nothing but then built his brand as a heel). But since then he's been all hero. And that stability is probably good for the WWE, too. Some fans just don't consider him "cool" because he's not pushing the envelope like they know he can, and see him as a PG-13 Eminem (which is sort of his character, but hey if it works...).
Give 'Em Enough Rope by the Clash is a good album. I don't agree with the opinion that Sandy Pearlman's production ruined the band's sound.
Although I'll probably go see Hateful Eight, Taratino's kinda run out of ideas. He should really consider taking on a writing partner or doing another adaptation or something to remain fresh.
Hmm. I'm not too sure about that, although it's a perfectly valid opinion. Certainly not in relation to Metallica.
I rate 'Death Magnetic' way, way higher than the absolutely rubbish 'Load' and 'Reload' albums of the 1990s. Those are two of the most disappointing metal albums of all time.
Bland songs (at least half of which would have been better off never seeing the light of day), insipid production and performances, no guts, no fire, no passion. Shite records that are WAY too long and overblown.
The 'Load' albums. Yuck.
Death Magnetic was the first legitimate attempt from Metallica to recapture the magic of their first four albums, but it feels so empty and overproduced. Kill 'Em All, which is my favorite Metallica album, had a raw intensity, due partially to the fact that it had very low production on the sound. Death Magnetic, on the other hand, feels like the band going through the motions, without any driving soul to anything. They should just hang it up at this point.

"What can I say? I guess I outgrew maturity.." - Bob Chipman
Oh, it's far from a perfect record. 'Death Magnetic' suffers from the same manufactured and contrived development process that has bothered me about every Metallica record since the turn of the 1990s. Like so:
Metallica (1991) - A huge compromise in intensity and attitude. Shorter and easier tracks. Singles, music videos, the works. Metallica clean up.
Load & Reload (1996/7) - Oh ****. Grunge and alternative rock have taken over the music industry. Let's try and win over that crowd.
St. Anger (2003) - As above only this time it's nu-metal. Let's get rid of the guitar solos and record the entire shebang inside a giant biscuit tin.
Death Magnetic (2008) - By now our 1980's albums are revered as classics, plus metal's making a mini-comeback. Let's try and recreate that.
As forced as 'Death Magnetic' is though, far from 'sucking hard' it's far more palatable to me than the mind-warpingly tedious 'Load' material. Also, the last Slayer album I bought was 'Christ Illusion'. I'll admit that it's been a few years since I listened to it but I don't remember it being too bad really.
Also, going back to controversial opinions (or maybe not in this case) - Nu-metal is far and away the most moronic sub-culture in heavy metal history.
I liked Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but I only liked the movie.
I find the deaths in the later Nightmare on Elm Streets scarier than the ones in the first three movies.
Slasher films don't work in a world where so many real horrors happen day in and day out. That's why I think the newer ones tend to do poorly.
Some of Tokyopop's original manga was pretty good. My favorite was MBQ by Felipe Smith.
The Sega Genesis doesn't get enough credit these days. Every time there's a retrospective about it outside of specialist sites, it's just yet another chance to go on and on about the "horrible" 32X and Sonic and how it simply wasn't as gud as the SNES because it didn't have *insert first-person Nintendo or Square game* here.
Every "bad" console I've played had at least one good game.
Games turn out crappy (ex. Ride to Hell, Rise of the Robots, etc.) for a wide variety of reasons. It's rare that someone goes out of their way to make a crappy game. Yet when these games are discussed rarely are those factors (ex. crap management, lack of time) talked about.
It was a great over-the-top comedy. I wasn't interested in a teen horror soap. Oddly, I really liked Angel.Crazy Diamond gets agreement:
I liked Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but I only liked the movie.

The matrix films did nothing for me. I respected, intellectually, the fact that a cool foreign-thriller feeling series with interesting philosophy was so big, but it was so cold and "for people who feel clever" I couldn't muster up any love.
I don't like any of them because Keanu Reeves has the acting ability of a two by four (wonderful person in real life, though, I hear).

I was more interested in the idea of people being plugged into a virtual reality machine, and was completely out with the leather coats, sunglasses (really?), and kung fu. May sound ridiculous coming from a superhero fan, but is hand to hand combat and dodging bullets the way to go about solving this problem? It was too silly for me. I don't mind Keanu, he seems like a dope who's always playing himself but I could point to a dozen prominent actors who have been doing that for decades (though less dopey).
I like Keanu when he's playing an amiable dope, say, Bill and Ted or Parenthood. It's when he tries "real acting" that he comes off wooden.
