Cool Your Ticket to the Multiverse, Princess - Miss America Chavez Appreciation!

Introducing the Miss America Chavez Appreciation Thread!

    http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/America...pian_Parallel)

A rather obscure character created by Joe Casey and Nick Dragotta in the limited series Vengeance (2011), MAC debuted and seemingly disappeared. Including her in their Young Avengers (2013) series, Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie fleshed out her character a bit more, giving some motivation and drive to her as well as exploring her origin. MAC continued to have consistent appearances in Secret Wars (2015) tie-ins and later featured in the Ultimates (2015), Civil War II (2015), and Ultimates˛ (2016) series.

MAC's solo comic America debuted in March of 2017, written by Gabby Rivera and primarily penciled by Joe Quinones, while still peppering appearances in other books.

MAC is also featured in the Avengers Academy and Marvel: Future Fight mobile games as a playable character.

Cierra Ramirez will be voicing (Miss) America Chavez for the upcoming Marvel Rising animation feature, MAC's animation debut.

(Miss) America Chavez was named Superhero of the Year (2017) by Entertainment Weekly.

If you're a MAC fan, or you're newly interested in the character, feel welcome to talk about her here!

she's too punch-happy. She needs a boyfriend, or something.. (I haven't read all her appearances, so kudos to whoever's doing something positive with her, I guess...)

She's gay. She doesn't need a boyfriend. Besides, she's got Lisa as her girlfriend.

Considering she is a lesbian, she doesn't need a boyfriend at all. And since when do boyfriends solve anger issues?

I had never heard or her before Young Avengers, but I liked her a lot in that. Haven't had a chance to read Ultimates yet, but it's on my list. I'm very pro MAC.

I liked her in Vengeance. She was fun. I loved her in Young Avengers, which was just a great book all around, and it gave her such a great origin. And then I'm already enjoying her in Ultimates. So, yeah, I really love her. She's become one of my favourite characters. There's a lot of depth to her.

As has been noted in the thread for the Ultimates #1, MAC isn't necessarily "angry" as much as she is confident, and it just so happens that punching everything has worked well (enough?) for her so far.

We know she has a soft(er) side:

Lokie: "Oh, ugh. Is love really going to save us all?"
MAC: "Of course it is. Anyone who thinks otherwise gets stomped into paste."

Plus all the pet names she likes to give everyone shows that she can become emotionally attached (rather quickly) to people.

I am hoping the rumors of her getting an ongoing are true. I mean, she seems popular enough and well, how many LGBT characters can you name getting their own ongoing?

Is that real? Are those real rumors? Because yes please. I'd love to see GW Wilson write that.

SO, I keep seeing MAC come up, and aside from A-Force and a few issues of young avnegers (wasn't a fan), could someone give me a rundown of who she is? All I know is she can punch holes through reality (uhhhh what?) and she's is from another dimenions (UHHH. WHAT?) but I'd love to know more about her.

I'd love a Miss America solo. She'd be a great character to do it with. Aside from the diversity points, she's got a lot going for her. She's powerful enough to give her serious threats to face. Her dimension-hopping sets up tons of story possibilities. There's a lot of potential for a Miss America solo. I don't know how likely it is, though.

OK. So. Just as a warning: Miss America's story might even make Rachel Summers look straightforward.

So, she comes from a utopian world of magic, created by Wiccan in the future after he becomes the Demiurge. Her world is populated by women, and they're all princesses. Her moms were her world's greatest superheroes, and gave their lives protecting their world and sealing it off from the common multiverse. America decided she couldn't do anything for a world that was always perfect, so she jumped through a tear in existence before it could close, and landed in a normal world. (We don't know exactly which reality, but 616 seems like a safe guess.) That was 10 years ago, and she's spent the past decade protecting the world from cosmic and multiversal threats.

She's cynical, abrasive and closed-off. She's immensely strong. She can open small portals to other worlds by kicking through reality, and she closes those holes with good thoughts. She can also punch a singularity in the face, because she can ignore some laws of physics when she feels like it.

She first appeared in a mini-series called Vengeance, by Joe Casey, where she was part of a group called the Teen Brigade. She was the team's powerhouse, the one who hit things really hard while others handled subtler stuff. She was given no backstory there. Then in Young Avengers, the Gillen/McKelvie run, in the second-last issue, she was given the backstory. There were plenty of moments throughout the series that showed there was a lot more to her than it seemed. (It also showed that she's not big on pop culture, as a Game of Thrones reference went over her head.)

    And now she's in Ultimates.

While she is confident, I think what people are mistaking for anger is simply America being very stand-offish. There's a lot of words you can use to describe her. She's abrasive, certainly. It's even safe to call her a bitch. But she's not angry. Anger indicates a lack of control. But she's very self-controlled.

Bolded: That too. Confident people can be arrogant, even if their confidence isn't misplaced.

And you're partly right about anger. Classic Hulk is angry. Villains are, at times, angry. Someone like the Punisher is angry, though, and has quite a bit of control, no? (not saying MAC is "angry", though)

Woah! That's a harsh pet name here, Jennifer must have gone "puta" after this one.
For those that don't know, in spanish & portuguese "puta" translates to "slut" or "whore" in english, but can also mean ( as an adjective instead of a noum) that she's someone who's being super bitchy an pissed-off (at least in portuguese slang).
