    Uncanny X-Men #121 May 1979
"Shoot-Out at the Stampede!" Part 2 of 2. Guest-starring Alpha Flight (First full appearance)
    ...Continued from last issue.

Cyclops, Colossus and Storm burst down the barriers to the exhibition grounds for the Calgary Stampede.
After they’ve entered, a shadowy figure (Shaman) sprinkles magic dust from his pouch (medicine bag) along the entrance,
sealing it off from any more outsiders. As the X-Men search for their missing teammates, Cyclops reflects on the events of last issue,
leading up to a moment in which Storm relates how she can trace Vindicator’s energy trail by following disruptions in the air,
which led them to the stampede grounds. Flying ahead, Storm locates Wolverine and Nightcrawler.

As they close in on their subdued friends, the X-Men come face to face with Alpha Flight.
At the main gate, Banshee, Misty and Colleen arrive but a force field covers the gates where Shaman sprinkled his magic dust.
They cannot enter. Inside, Cyclops argues with Vindicator. Colossus gets skittish and kicks at the ground,
sending out a shock wave that knocks the Flight members off their feet.

Fighting breaks out and Nightcrawler and Wolverine (both of whom were just playing possum) leap to their feet.

The teams are evenly matched, but Alpha Flight gains the upper-hand through team-work.
Shaman creates a blizzard to keep the X-Men off guard, but it quickly engulfs the entire city.
Atop the Calgary Tower, restaurant patrons John and Darice find their pleasant dinner disrupted when the windows burst inwards.

The battle wages on until everyone is distracted by the blizzard, which is growing more intense by the moment.
Even Shaman is overwhelmed by it. Sensing the dangerous forces Shaman has unleashed,
Storm subdues Snowbird and diverts all her energy towards putting an end to the ferocious gale.
She manages to dispel it, but as soon as she glides back to the ground, a devious Northstar punches her from behind.

Furious, Cyclops kayos Northstar and is ready to pummel him, but Wolverine intervenes, calling a truce

and stating that he’ll surrender so long as the rest of the X-Men are allowed to leave. Vindicator agrees.

The barrier across the gate fades away just as an armored car pulls up.
Wolverine climbs in, ignoring insults hurled at him by Garson, a Department H functionary.
The next morning, a new jet is carrying the X-Men & co. homewards. It’s flanked by Canadian Air Force fighters until they reach U.S. airspace,
at which point the fighters peel off. Cyclops polls the team about returning to rescue Wolverine, to which everyone agrees.
But as he enters the cockpit to tell the pilot to turn around, he’s amazed to see Wolverine sitting in the co-pilot’s chair!
He suggests they celebrate, because at long last the X-Men are going home.

Story by Chris Claremont and John Byrne. Art by John Byrne and Terry Austin.

All the AF v.3 characters who died are still dead, alas. I have no idea what happened to Earthmover, Shaman's protege from forever ago.

He was depowered (off-panel, but his mutant powers were said to be part of the energy signature now part of 'The Collective' who had the powers of all the mutants who lost their powers). Since the Decimation was 'undone' by the Phoenix Force, he might be re-powered, or not. They've been pretty inconsistent about that, and some depowered mutants (like Dani) are still powerless, while others (like Windshear or Wind-Dancer) are just never mentioned, so we have no idea.

Heck, there are some we don't know if they even lost their powers, let alone regained them, like Laura Dean/Pathway and her sister Goblyn.

Nah. That got handwaved in Amazing X-Men as, "Mac and I have had a rough year" - or something to that effect - a few years back, but she's back to being in control of herself. No mention of their kid, though.

So Kara is not a villain now?

That had seemed to come out of nowhere so I’m glad it’s gone if that’s the case.

    Alpha Flight #10 May 1984
"Blood Battle!" Part 2 of 2.
In New York, James Hudson prepares to move into a new apartment as part of the job with Roxxon he has accepted.
While he wonders what the rest of Alpha Flight is up to, Walter Langkowski is running for his life from the Super-Skrull, who has decided
to make sport of his kill in the isolated Rocky Mountain wilderness that was the site of the research station that retrieved him from space.

The stress causes Walter to transform into a savage version of Sasquatch that begins to overpower the Super-Skrull

until the Skrull employs his hypnotic powers to calm the beast.
Sasquatch manages to avoid falling under complete dominance, but fakes it in order to wait for the right moment.
The Skrull explains that he was previously beamed away from Earth and doesn't quite know how he ended up back there.
He intends to force Sasquatch to help him build a new transmitter device to help him escape.
Sasquatch notices that all the Skrull's time as a radioactive signal has left him with a form of leukemia that is killing him.
In the guise of mind-control, Sasquatch helps construct the device until the Super-Skrull is hit with another attack from his disease,
then forces the Skrull into the device and prematurely actives it, scattering his enemy's atoms into the ether,
and if they were ever to re-integrate, he would die immediately from the radiation poisoning.
Walter figures this is as good a revenge as any for the murder of his colleagues,
but he doesn't like the more monstrous side of himself he's discovered.

When he returns to his home in Vancouver, Walter is surprised to be met by Aurora,

who only wants to be with him after parting ways with her brother.
Walter wonders how this news will hit the rest of the team.

Back-up feature: The Origins of Alpha Flight.
    "Family Ties!" Starring Northstar.

After Jeanne Beaubier joins Dept.H, Heather Hudson notices how much she resembles skiing champion Jean-Paul Martin,
and a little bit of digging reveals that they are long lost twins. After the death of their parents,
the Martins could only afford to adopt one of them and arranged for the school to look after Jeanne-Marie.
When the Martins died in turn, the connection between the siblings was lost until now.

Jean-Paul is brought in to Ottawa when he hears the news and immediately takes to using the Beaubier name.

He meets with James Hudson, who reveals he knows about the champion's hidden power of flight

and offers him a spot in the Department to put them to better use. Jean-Paul isn't interested at first,
but changes his tune when introduced to the sister he never knew he had.

How would AF fans feel is Mac had to give up the Guardian mantle and took more of a Prof X kind of role leading the team from the background? I had this idea of Mac not being able to use the suit anymore because of all the damage he has taken over the years catching up to him, and him having to find someone to take up the mantle while he becomes the head of Dept H.
