That's not what racism is though. A lot of people in this thread seem to think (or at least that's what they are projecting) the only racism is systemic or institutional racism. Individually any single person or group of persons can be racist against literally any racial group or social minority or majority. It doesn't really matter who or what it is.

Systemically, yeah it's kind of ridiculous to think that there will ever be widespread systemic racism against white and/or heterosexuals. That could only happen in a system where those aren't the majority or predominantly powerful race or sexual orientation.

But the concepts of racism isn't confined to one or the other. Just the application.

Systemic racism (and sexism), however, are so incredibly more prominent and endemic, and therefore present a much greater and consistent threat, making these cases of what amount to rare individual actions or beliefs pale in comparison.

Is there someone out there who irrationally dislikes white people? Sure. Yes.

Are there people out there who hate men? Yes.

Do we have them denying service at restaurants in large enough numbers that it's notable? Are they attacking men's gyms or health clinics with firearms on a consistent basis? Is there an anti-white version of the Klan or the Nazi Party who have or are operating on the scale either has achieved?

We live in a world where Lemony Snicket has to make watermelon jokes because a black woman won an award. Donald Trump isn't just all over tv and doesn't apparently just have money in everything, he's making an apparently serious bid for President of the United States. If a black woman, even worse in this case, if an Asian woman made a serious bid for the presidency and said the sorts of things he's saying but about white men... we'd see Chinese Exclusion laws jump back into practice even if she was Korean-descent and a fourth-generation American. Because we are *^#@ed up racist and sexist in America.

Can you imagine a show on American tv that ran for five or eight seasons and had maybe two white men, ever, even in the background? And that the star of the show, a decade later, was still so mad about being even a little criticized for that, used the anniversary of another show to petulantly "apologize" for not solving all of society's ills, as if that was what was being asked of them?

For the straight white men in this thread: What's the worst thing that's ever happened to you, because of your ethnicity and gender?

And, do you honestly think that any woman or nonwhite person you ask won't have had worse things they could bring up, that happened to them because of their ethnicity or gender?

I never said people can't be racist against whites, or hate heterosexuals. But there are levels to this stuff. The member I quoted seems to conclude that racism against whites and sexism against men are escalating. I guess my point is that it will never escalate to the point that it has for other groups who have been victims of prejudice in this country. Nor do I believe that anyone wants that. You're right, anyone can hate anyone, but while it may be a concept, it's still not an issue IMO.

It's not a pissing contest. Just because one group's suffering is a lot worse than another group's, that doesn't mean that the second group's suffering is insignificant.

That said, if the worst a white hetero male has to endure is a few nasty comments on Facebook, he should just get over it. Cancel his Facebook account if it bothers him that much.

There are good ideas and not-so-good ideas. This thread probably falls into the latter.
