Basically, his father was one of the head scientists for an evil multi-billion corporate conglomerate in Japan known as Sumeragi that captures and experiments on Adepts (Humans with psychic abilities). Adepts, typical for all superhumans this sort of scenario, are feared and hated by normal people for their supernatural abilities. His dad was opposed to the experiments to control Adepts, not because he found it ethically abhorent, but because he thought it better that they were destroyed because he felt that they were a threat to humanity as a whole. One day, one of his test subjects(who just happens to be Gunvolt's future leader and father figure) killed him and vaporized the research facility, following his escape. The incident was covered up by Sumeragi. Flash forward ten years later, where Copen, who discovers his father's cover-up and research notes, vows revenge on Sumeragi and all Adepts for the death of his father. He builds advanced mechanical suits to augment his strength and defenses, trains in several martial arts, and creates weaponry that allows him to replicate the abilities of other Adepts with just a cell sample or a trace energy signature. He also creates a portable robot with a fully-functional female AI called Lola to act as his battle support and companion. He's pretty much a young Tony Stark...if Tony was an excessively paranoid, revenge-seeking racist. As for what he's done, he's basically works to impede Gunvolt at every turn, while spouting out that all Adepts must die. Even when GV tries to reason with him by pointing out that Adepts are just as human as everyone else and aren't all murderous psychopaths, Copen just brings up that bullshit argument that you hear from humans in X-men or Elfen Lied. You know the ones. It's especially annoying since he claims he's doing it for the sake of human pride and to "pass judgment in place of God". Even when GV repeatedly lets him live and even gave him back his fucking weapon (a modified revolver that was a momento of his father's), he still talks about how he's going to kill him one day. Even risking his life to save his younger sister and saving the world itself from a revolution led by Adepts intent on exterminating humanity wasn't enough to change his biased outlook on GV. Oh, and he finds out his sister is an Adept - which makes him wonder if he'll have to kill her one day because of her powers, even though she has the personality of freaking Ruby Rose. The same sister that he expressed that he loved, adored, and swore to protect. And he admittedly went through hell to get her back when she was kidnapped. But as soon as he finds out she's the very thing he's brainwashed himself into loathing and perceiving as a threat? Yeah, she may need to die. Ass. Hole.
