    Default 1000 books in 2016

Since the "1000 books in 2015" challenge was a success, here is a new thread for 2016.

The goal is to read a 1000 comic book issues this year to enter the exclusive 1000CLUB of extraordinary gentlefolk.

Keep us updated of your progress and write a few lines about what you've read, what you liked and disliked, just to keep things interesting and informative.

Usually a 22 pages comic counts as one issue, in case of other formats just divide it with 22. If you feel like your 48 pages long french album is really wordy and takes just as long to read as a 120pg american tpb then feel free to count it as 5 issues, nobody gonna shout at you, it's all for fun.

    Happy reading guys!

YES! Looking forward to it! Still a bit hungover so won't be reading anything today probably but I'll definitely start making progress the coming couple of days. Still have at least 150 issues on my shelf not including digital and MU so that's going to keep me busy

My final count for 2015 was 1582 comics.

My goal for 2016 will resemble that of the Jerry Lewis telethon: one more than last year.

I'll be joining this year. One of my new year's resolutions is to read everything I buy, and a target of 1,000 books should make that happen, I hope.

    Anyway today I read:

    Goddamned #1 (1 issue)
This was awesome stuff. Loved Guéra's art and loved the funny dialogues.

Krasse knarren vol. 3 (3 issues)
A dutch/french comic book, that was a joy to read again just like the other installments of this series. It's about some really old folks that are up to lots of mischief. Hilarious!

    Veil (5 issues)
't was okay. I expected better from Rucka and the art is not really my cuppa tea. Nothing special here.

    Zwijgen als vermoord (3 issues)
Another BD. This was pretty good, but I expected more from the Zidrou's scenario of this crime comic. Berthet's art is as beautiful as ever. Nice one.

    Total: 12 issues

Superman/Wonder Woman Annual #2-It's a title that I read off and on. I liked it better when Charles Soule was on the book. The Elastigirl Easter egg was pretty cool.

Legend of Wonder Woman #8- I considered myself a Wonder Woman fan ever since Azzarello, but Renae De Liz really sealed the deal. I look forward to any projects she has coming up.

Doctor Fate #7- Unlike a lot of people on here, I've been enjoying this book. People are complaining about Paul Levitz and his slow paced storytelling. I personally think it's fitting for this particular character.

Jonathan Hickman's Avengers #1-10: This is what ALL superhero team books should strive to be.

Squadron Supreme #1-2: The first issue was strong especially with the killing of Namor, but the second issue fell flat.

I've been curious about HS for the Ashley Wood art, but I feel like it'd be wasted on a talky Bendis scripted series. Let us know what you think as/if you continue though the next twelve issues.

I'm definitely going to participate in this this year, if only to finally read all the comics I've purchased during the past three (so ashamed .)

@MartinNL I liked Veil a lot more than I expected (I picked up the HC for $5 on Black Friday, so my reaction may've benefited from that.) I can't imagine it sustaining my interest as a monthly series, but I liked the characters for what little they had to do and it sure was pretty.

    I will join (again).
In 2015 I lost count, but I didn't read as much as I had hoped. Think I managed around 300 Comics.

I will aim for 1.000 in 2016 as I will go through a lot of the Marvel EPICs that I purchased in 2015.

Well, Bendis only lasted 5 issues and Wood two more (but afterwards comes Ben Templesmith, so it´s not that bad). Issues 6 was supposedly co-plotted by Bendis and Steve Niles, but the former claims that Todd McFarlane and/or Niles drastically altered his outlines, enough to make him wish his name had been dropped from the credits. There is also this story about McFarlane being pissed about Bendis leaving the title in order to write Ultimate Spider-Man, so I wonder how much of Bendis' plans was kept.

As for the issues themselves, they're... ok? I don't know what to say. It's just a lot of people usually sitting and Bendis talk. There is some setup for events to come, but I don't know if Niles continued them. However, the five issues I've read so far are not that bad. Bendis writes only dark and gruesome scenes that were clearly made with Wood's art in mind. Expect crazy psychopaths, nutty priests, suicide attempts, porn theaters, hobos, and a visually trippy battle between Spawn and the Violator. Wood's art is often great, although too confusing at times and I'm not sure that's always intentional.

I don't know if I'm going to continue reading it because I don't like anything by Niles I've read so far, and future issues feature Miracleman. Considering the year they were published, it would not surprise me if that character was only included to piss Neil Gaiman. But hey, Ashley Wood and Ben Templesmith draw the following eleven issues! And there's a cyborg gorilla! And... if I began reading the series, I should finish it too.

EDIT: Actually, Wood stayed until issue 10. Damn, more reasons to get the following issues!
