Default How tough is a power ring equipped Kryptonian?

    We have two examples:

Sodom Yat - who was a flop.

Kal with a Yellow Ring who could duke it out with a Guardian.

So if you had a competent Kryptonian level power ring user, what type (short of a high end cosmic - like Galactus or the Spectre) could handle said person.

Sodom Yat was a daxamite, so he had that terrible lead vulnerability, though otherwise he had most of the usual kryptonian yellow sun power set. I don't see how the two powersets would have much synergy. The ring runs off willpower (or whatever emotion for one of the other rings), which isn't an attribute that gets a yellow sun boost. Superhuman speed is nice, but maybe the ring doesn't process commands at that speed, so you just get a highly mobile ringwielder. And the ring effects don't strike me as superior to the kryptonian powers, so any Superman rogue that can handle his speed can probably handle a competent kryptonian power ring user. Most GL villains probably can't deal readily with a super-speed blitz, so they would likely fail.

Actually, we've seen numerous examples of class 100s with rings having their durability stack. We have also seen Green Lanterns with enhanced reaction time pull of intense transmutation stunts within nanoseconds. Plus a couple examples of Flashes using rings at high speeds.

While not strictly Kryptonian, Cyborg Superman with yellow rings beat the crap out of Clark, Doomsday with a GL ring ripped the GLC a new one, and Mongul with rings took on mobs of some of the GLC's best, as well as stomped Sinestro one on one.

A class 100 who is good with a ring is terrifying.

The whole point of the GL Corps ring is physical powers/attributes matters not... It's about mental fear-conquering will-power, no mater how "strong" you are physically.

Jordan expressed it by test flying planes, but Tomar-Re a scientist, Katma Tui a school teacher, Xax an insect being, anyone from the smallest most insignificant could bravely conquer fear, and harness the ring.
    That's it's power.
If you (including some contemporary writers) are writing super/powerful beings as "better" ring-wielders cause thy have "physical" advantage/superiority, you've completely missed the point of what a Green Lantern is, what the power is, why they are chosen, and how they harness and wield it's power.

I think you got that backwards

How so? Fear conquering will power, is a mental exercise, not one of physical strength.

You edited it to fix the mistake that Knight was pointing out. Originally, it sounded more like you said fear conquers will power. Which is the reverse of what Lanterns do. He was joking.

There's also New 52 Supergirl who during her time as a Red Lantern took dozens of Green Lanterns to immobilize.

Didn't Superboy Prime also have a ring during Sinestro Corps War?

Woooow... I've never, ever been accused of "missing the point of what a Green Lantern is." That's actually hilarious to me.

Yes, Green Lanterns are largely about will power overcoming all. That doesn't change the fact that some creatures are better equipped than others. Nor is this a new concept. Sodam Yat was called the ultimate Green Lantern by Alan Moore as far back as 1986-- did you think it was a coincidence that he was a Daxamite? That being essentially Superman with a Green Lantern ring had nothing to do with that?

Or, hell, Mogo Doesn't Socialize, 1985. Mogo was known as the most powerful Green Lantern of them all. Being a frigging planet probably had something to do with that. Maybe he's just the best because he has a planet sized brain and planet sized will power... but that's still from being a freaking planet.

The GLC has played around with wackier alien physiology being paired with the ring to great effect for a long time. (And in turn, they aped this concept from their pulp-sci fi predecessors, the Lensman, where humans had the most raw psychic power but crazy alien dragons had the best multi-tasking and other species had the best stamina, and what have you.) Oftentimes this isn't from something as crazy as a Kryptonian or White Martian, but having even one competitive advantage get's played up. Bzzd uses his tiny size to blitz enemies, sneak up on them, even attack them from the inside. We have seen multiple sentient viruses wield power rings and amplify their natural viral potency to take out entire planets or Lanterns in air tight bubbles.

Sometimes raw talent with the ring can overcome biological advantages. Bedovian could naturally see from light years away, and used that to snipe Lanterns. John Stewart managed to pinpoint the guy and take him out via his ring. But even that got played up to be due to his training as a Marine Sniper, rather than because he had superior general ring skills.

And when you really think about, why shouldn't biology come into play? Will power is a function of the brain, which is just a big ol' lump of biology. You need to have the right sort of brain to be a Lantern. Human brains are evidently well suited to it, since humanity keeps churning out top tier Lanterns. But even then you would imagine there is some species out there that just has a better brain for will power.

You can't especially blame this on modern writers either... It's been happening for at least 30 years. Probably more, but I haven't read that much pre-crisis Green Lantern stuff. (Not that I see it as particularly relevant, given all the reboots since then.) Now granted, about 10 years of that you mostly just had Kyle Rayner running around as the only Lantern. But the last 11 years, the time where we have actually had multiple GL titles focusing on more than just one human Lantern? They have made a huge deal out of biology. No, it's not the only relevant factor. But come on, if you put Hal Jordan's brain in Superman's body, do you really think he's gonna lose to Hal Jordan in the body of Hal Jordan?

Nerp. Just wore the logo. Guy probably lacked the mental abilities to wield a ring.

EDIT: Which is a decent illustration that you still need to have the stuff to be a Lantern regardless of physical prowess. Of course, SBP had so much raw power he killed Lanterns by the dozen without a ring, so.

That is what it's about, no matter the size, we had Xax saying it before Yoda existed.

The ring itself implicitly ignores that "equipment" and chooses based on their individual willpower.
Better eyesight you mention is meaningless to the ring, as it can choose someone blind, you like to cite Moore, he came up with a Lantern who was blind so the ring channeled sound instead.
What mattered was the beings power of will, not physical attributes.
The ring adapts to the wielder physiology/equipment, big, small, is irrelevant, what it channels is their will.
Yes they use it differently as they should, and it manifests differently not only for different species, but for different individuals within a species.
But what it's recognizing in them and channeling is their will.

Yeah, read up on Lanterns some more before you post again!
