Who is the best Doctor Fate?

I'm going to say Kent Nelson he was the first Dr. Fate I know from various animated series.

Kent Nelson, for me, is the best. I will admit though, that I really loved the costume design for the Dr. Fate in Earth 2.

Kent Nelson gets my vote. None of the others have been around even half as long as he was. DC has made the role of Dr. Fate disposable in recent times.

Kent was my intro to the character. Always liked him..

Hector was most definately my favorite. I think a lot of that has to do with his long prior history in the DCU and the legacy that came with him. Remember being pissed that they wrote him out.

Kent V had a lotta potential. A lot. I am a huge fan of Gerber's writing and was really enjoying his take table on the Dr. Fate legacy.

The current series written by Levitz is really enjoyable, tho!

The next time a writer dances into an editor's office and gushes that he has an idea for a "better" Dr. Fate, security should eject him roughly from the building.

Absolutely the original, Kent Nelson. I have to say, though, that he hasn't really been treated as well as he could have been. I think there's been a lot of lost potential in this character. I know that DC's supernatural folks in general don't sell as well, but I wonder what someone like Grant Morrison could have done with him.

And what is the Gerber series? I've been around quite a while but for some reason don't recall and/or never heard of this. It sounds pretty good.

What are some good arcs/runs on Dr. Fate? I know there are not that many. The two that I have seen were the golden age (is the Archive Edition worth buying?) and the 1987 series by Giffen and DeMatteis which I can only find in singles and on comixology.

Agreed, I really would have rather they just used Kent for Earth-2 since it was supposed to be the JSA members anyway. But they gave Khalid such a great look that I regret not seeing it carried over into the current iteration of Fate.
