Default Who is the best Doctor Fate?

There have been several Dr. Fate's, but who is the best? The one I am most familiar with is the one from Johns' JSA (Hector Hall). I recently just bought Countdown to Mystery, which features Kent V. Nelson. The grand-nephew of Kent Nelson, the original Dr. Fate. I'm looking to learn more about the various Fates, so any recommendations would be appreciated.

    Kent Nelson: The original

Inza Kramer: wife of the original Fate

    Eric Strauss

    Linda Strauss

Hector Hall Hawkman and Hawkgirl (Shiera's) son.

    Kent V. Nelson

    Khalid Ben-Hassin

The answer is quite simple... Kent Nelson the ORIGINAL

Yes Kent Nelson will always be the first and best - but they have all been interesting characters - Would be great to have a Dr.Fate family book with all of them.

Kent Nelson gets my vote. None of the others have been around even half as long as he was. DC has made the role of Dr. Fate disposable in recent times.
Currently(or soon to be) Reading: Absolute Power, Batman/Superman: World's Finest, Birds of Prey, Green Arrow, Green Lantern, Justice Society of America, Shazam, Titans, & Wonder Woman.

Disposable is an apt word. I was surprised at how many Fates there have been. It's always the same too. The old Fate dies, in some contrived way, and a new Fate comes in and picks up the reigns.

I loved Inza as Dr. Fate in William Messner-Loebs's run, that was pretty great. I really liked Hector Hall in JSA and Khalid in Earth 2 as well. Khalid Nassour in Levitz's Dr. Fate is nice. I like Kent but I haven't actually read that much with him as Dr. Fate in it.

I also thought Jared Stevens had an extremely charming book in spite of his ridiculous design (the first book at least, wasn't a big fan of Giffen's take).

With Kent Nelson's return as the primary Doctor Fate for Rebirth and Levitz's Dr Fate still going on, I think both are calls to be excited.

I really hope Fate gets a TV or movie treatment in the near future.
