It turns out there was a perfectly reasonable explanation for that, that was discovered years ago, and that's why it's not a thing any more. but I forget what it was, and I can't be arsed looking it up.

At this point, I have a feeling that the "or" is a non-issue.

It seems like he was about the same age as my dad's folks. They were born in between 1910 and 1915. If I am even remotely close, that would put him at around one hundred(if not a few years older!).

While that does leave a very slim chance that he could be alive, it seems pretty unlikely.
