Actually, from what I recall it wasn't that David Bowie was slated to be in Burton's 1989 Batman film but rather a different script that had been passed around several years earlier. 1983, I believe? It's not hard to find online if you want to read it. Possibly even more amusing is who was set to be cast as Batman... none other than Bill Murray. What we got may have been better but it's one of those hypothetical films that I would love to see now.
On Wiki.
Even William Dafoe was casted for Joker as well then Jack came.
I would actually love nothing more in life than to see Bill Murray as big screen Batman.
I generally think Bowie did (writing in the past sense about DB is absolutely gut-wrenching, by the way) his best acting work when he underplayed his characters. I'm not sure that would have worked for Joker, but it would have been amazingly cool to see.
As of now:
All-Star Batman, Batman, Doom Patrol, The Flash, The Fix, The Flintstones, Green Valley, Hadrian's Wall, The Hellblazer, Moonshine, New Super-Man, Suicide Squad, Superman, 'Tec, Unfollow
David Bowie as the Joker? That would've got my Auntie to see it as she absolutely adored him.
Due to news yesterday and looking at some pictures, this actually crossed my mind. His face structure and maneirisms have that caothic "it". So, maybe.
Man what a loss.
Even Tim Curry was one of the original choices for Joker besides Bowie.
At least David Bowie/Joker made it into Frank Miller's DarkKnightReturns (I presume) as Miller wrote him that way (I presume)
You`re thinking about the lipstick and cigar scenes. Yeah, perhaps.
Also, Morrison's Batman RIP Joker was highly influenced by Bowie, according the writer.
