Default David Bowie as Joker in Burton's Batman

Did you know that he was gonna be Joker for the role before Jack?

When you say "he was gonna be", does that mean he was interested in / agreeing to do it, or is this more of "they wanted him to do it, but he had no interest in it"?

Actually, from what I recall it wasn't that David Bowie was slated to be in Burton's 1989 Batman film but rather a different script that had been passed around several years earlier. 1983, I believe? It's not hard to find online if you want to read it. Possibly even more amusing is who was set to be cast as Batman... none other than Bill Murray. What we got may have been better but it's one of those hypothetical films that I would love to see now.

Even William Dafoe was casted for Joker as well then Jack came.

I would actually love nothing more in life than to see Bill Murray as big screen Batman.

I generally think Bowie did (writing in the past sense about DB is absolutely gut-wrenching, by the way) his best acting work when he underplayed his characters. I'm not sure that would have worked for Joker, but it would have been amazingly cool to see.
    As of now:
All-Star Batman, Batman, Doom Patrol, The Flash, The Fix, The Flintstones, Green Valley, Hadrian's Wall, The Hellblazer, Moonshine, New Super-Man, Suicide Squad, Superman, 'Tec, Unfollow

I was under the impression that Bill Murray was originally Burton's first choice. IIRC for some reason he wanted a comedy person in the role. It was Michael Keaton's performance in Beetlejuice that changed Burton's mind.
