Default Star Wars - Episode VIII

StarWars.com - STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII TO OPEN DECEMBER 15, 2017

Today, Disney and Lucasfilm announced that Star Wars: Episode VIII, originally scheduled for release in summer 2017, will now debut on December 15, 2017.

The move follows the extraordinary success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was the first Star Wars movie to premiere outside the traditional summer blockbuster window and smashed numerous records, including biggest domestic and global debuts of all time as well as the biggest domestic second and third weekends, en route to becoming the highest grossing domestic release of all time with over $861.3 million and the third biggest global release ever with $1,886.7 billion.

Written and directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: Episode VIII is currently in preproduction and will begin principal photography in London next month. Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman will produce and J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski will executive produce. Stay tuned for exciting updates in the coming weeks.

Shanghai Daily - "Unearthly" Mexico City locales potential for Star Wars 8 filming

Likely locations in the capital's southeast include the densely- populated Iztapalapa and the rural Tlahuac, which is quickly becoming ubanized, a staff of Mexico City's Filming Commission told the daily Reforma.

"They were interested in types of caves or grottoes that are there. Given their features, they thought they could appear to be another planet," the staff added.

How much will they change Kylo's look, if at all?

And does he get a new saber? It looked like his got cut in half.

The announcement video brings up a question: If we're going to see Rey and Luke meet, will it be in flashback, or will it be before the crawl?

Kerry's Eye - Star Wars to return to Kerry - official

Filming for Star Wars VIII will take place in Dingle in April of 2016 and it is also expected that the cast and crew will also return to Skellig Michael.

Producer Kathleen Kennedy confirmed publicly for the first time last week that Star Wars will be back for more filming in Kerry.

In an interview with Expose, she said the film will 'continue' to use Skellig, which appears at the climax of the current film and appears to open the way for an appearance at the beginning of the next Star Wars film, due in 2017..

"We'll continue to use Skellig. Skellig is absolutely beautiful and you know the extraordinary thing which just shows you the force was working in Ireland is that it was sunny and beautiful both times we shot there," the producer said.

"We're going to be near Dingle and Skellig again."

The Dubrovnik Times - Star Wars waves goodbye to Dubrovnik

The futuristic scenes that have been installed onto the historic old facades are being boxed up and now we wait to see Dubrovnik star on the big screens when Star Wars VIII is released on the 15th of December 2017. It is speculated that around two minutes of actual film was recorded on each day of the Dubrovnik filming, which would mean that the city could have between ten and fifteen minutes in the final version.

The Irish Times - New ‘Star Wars’ film to shoot in Donegal and Kerry

Candice Campos, vice-president of physical production at Lucasfilm, said the company was thrilled to return to Ireland to film several sequences for the next chapter in the Star Wars saga.

“The beauty of Skellig Michael was stunning and we know the new locations along the Wild Atlantic Way will prove to be equally as beautiful in Star Wars: Episode VIII,” Ms Campos said. “We want to thank the people of Ireland for their warm welcome and continued support. Ireland has become an important part of Star Wars history.”

Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Heather Humphreys said the return of Star Wars to Ireland was a further boost for the Irish film sector.

“My department has been working with Disney Lucasfilm over recent months in a bid to accommodate the return of Star Wars to Ireland,” Ms Humphreys said. “Disney Lucasfilm have developed a strong affinity for Ireland, and I am delighted to see them return to Ireland for further filming around our beautiful and dramatic coastline.

“We have already seen how the most recent Star Wars film has brought Sceilg Mhichíl and southwest Kerry to a global audience. Now, further locations around the Irish coast will experience similar exposure, providing untold benefits to the tourism and film sectors.”

The Movie Bit - Star Wars to shoot in Co.Cork and the Wild Atlantic Way

We've just discovered that some of the scenes are to be shot in Brow Head, Co.Cork. We've seen the filming proposal and it's a pretty detailed document outlining the impact on the area right down to specifications for ports cabins. According to the documentation, this seems to be a relatively long production. 12 weeks have been outlined for assembly, filming and disassembly of the sets and area. Filming will take place between 8am and 8pm on a privately owned parcel of land on the western side of the headland and a cast and crew of up to 200 are expected.

No mention of Star Wars or the production company was listed on the documentation but it's noted that the "purpose of the proposed filming activity is to shoot a number of scenes for an established franchise" But given todays announcement, you'd want to be pretty dumb not to figure out what that is!

MTV - DAISY RIDLEY TELLS US EVERYTHING SHE KNOWS ABOUT STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII

“Me and Mark have been rehearsing a lot, and it’s really amazing,” Ridley told MTV News on the Oscars red carpet Sunday (February 28). “When we went back to Skellig to do the opening of [Episode] VIII, it was so crazy doing the same scene with a different crew of people. He’s amazing to rehearse with, and I’m very excited to be doing the rest of the stuff.”

“It’s such a good story,” Ridley added. “Seriously. Luke is so cool in this one. Really.”

Daisy Ridley: [Episode VIII is] different, and it's great. And I think it's... people will be surprised and very happy.
Entertainment Tonight - EXCLUSIVE: Daisy Ridley Opens Up About 'Star Wars: Episode VIII' and New Director Rian Johnson

Daisy Ridley is already back at work on Star Wars: Episode VIII and though there's a different face in the director's chair -- Looper's Rian Johnson has stepped in to fill J.J. Abrams' shoes for the next installment of the iconic space franchise -- not much has changed.

"It's still very lovely and warm and friendly," the actress told ET last week at Abrams' Bad Robot Productions while promoting the Star Wars: The Force Awakens DVD/Blu-ray release. "Just like VII was."

Abrams worked hard to keep the details of Star Wars: The Force Awakens under wraps, but now that the ball's rolling on the franchise's third trilogy, Ridley says that things are "a little bit freer." In fact, Johnson plans to be "a bit cheekier" with what he releases from production.

"Obviously it went really well with VII, but it's wonderful to give people a little bit," the 23-year-old actress explained. "I think we did do that for VII, just a little bit to keep the interest peaked."

I wonder if Snoke will receive character development for the next movie. There's still so much we don't know about the character like whether he's really a giant or not. I also heard rumors that Snoke is really Darth Plaguis, which I doubt.

    [Episode VIII is] different
    That's a relief already.

Still can't fathom how they could get away with such a lazy-ass copy of A New Hope.
