Not symbolic at all, just that the team then and the scattered characters being pulled by half-memories now aren't an exact match. Dick's name and costume change aren't that much different from Garth and Donna's changes, and Hawk isn't removed from the fray by having a different Dove.
Of course, by that token Dick doesn't really need the Nightwing costume at all, but if the mask jogs his memory it's a less harmful way of achieving that than Roy's been trying.

I'd love to see Batgirl return to a more serious book, like when Gail Simone was writing it, but I think I'm in the minority Thing is I'd probably love Batgirl of Burnside if it was Steph in the suit. I just think it's an ill fit for Barbara. Tim Drake needs a soft reboot. He's a poor shade of his preboot self. Maybe a mini series focusing on developing his character and then stick him in a monthly with Jason.
