Default Cover Contest Jan. 27-Feb,2 Favorite First Cover

For this contest it's your favorite first cover.
Now this can be the cover to your favorite first issue, OR the your favorite cover from a first issue.

It should be an issue #1, an exemption would be something from the early days of Marvel and DC when the first issue of a super hero was from a title already in existence.
So Astounding Showcase #27 the first issue for Captain SpeedyGuy would be good, as well as issue #1 of Captain SpeedyGuy's own comic.

But not just the first appearance of this or that character in someone else's book or first time someone did something. So Bulk-Thing #138, where Hell-Ferret first popped up doesn't count.
Or a call back to my win last week No "Omega Men" where a certain Czarnian first showed up.
So real first issues. Hope I made it clear for everyone.

For my Cover I am picking the one that got comic collecting started for me.

The legendary Barry Smith and Conan.

    Cover Contest Weekly Posted Rules:

Post one (and only one) cover that fits the theme of this week's contest.
No suggestions from the peanut gallery - post it yourself or keep quiet.
Cover must be from a published comic book or collected volume.
Covers must be posted before voting begins.
Voting begins 12 AM Tuesday and runs until 12 AM Wednesday PST.
Vote by posting the name in bold of the poster whose cover best fits the theme or that you simply like the most.
The winner of the contest is the entrant with the most votes after the voting period.
It's okay to discuss the covers but if you think someone's entry doesn't fit the theme or violates the rules, you don't need to argue it in the thread, simply don't vote for it.
Most importantly please remember that we're here to have fun. Enjoy!

This always reminds me of my favorite joke about the frog and the tank.

How about a favourite first featuring a fascinating Frank Frazetta femme fatale?

Why yes, now that you asked.

This is HARD. Most of my 'firsts' happened in the middle of something or other. But this particular first issue was a pretty big deal for me, back in the day.

You can find a bunch of books I wrote stories for here. The weekly column is here.

I had a joke entry in mind, but this is more honest.

The comic that started out as a funny-animal parody of Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith's Conan the Barbarian, and became a 300-issue epic dealing with topics including politics, religion, economics, love, death, religion, feminism, the nature of masculinity, a bit more religion, what writer/artist Dave Sim reckons about famous dead white male authors, and religion. And probably some other stuff too I dunno I still haven't finished it.

It wasn't always great, but when it was it was freakin' spectacular, and it showed me that comics can be about much more than just dudes in capes and tights punching each other.

It doesn't get any more first-er than that!

It doesn't get any more first-er than that!
Well, there's this, but it doesn't have a cover.
