The suit maybe but Metropolis itself for example doesn’t look retro at all imo. And they’re doing new stuff like giving us Lobo and Parasite as the main antagonists. Would I prefer a t-shirt and jeans Superman movie? Sure. But this doesn’t feel retro to me, Supes is cocky and arrogant when he takes on Lobo. That’s not something you’d normally see.

    Is it ?

It just looks like a stramline version of STAS' Metropolis, to me. Nothing really futuristic - or at least modern take on futurism, it seems really more like 80's/90's take on what futuristic is. I'm not sure I'm clear.

It's not a 80s/90s take on futuristic - you probably think that because it looks like STAS which was in the 90s, but the early DCAU was intentionally made somewhat anachronistic for a "timeless" quality. Basically they were inspired by what the 40s/50s thought was futuristic. Like if Metropolis came out of the World's Fair.

MOT is the start of a shared universe after all. Do we need a new acronym? DCAU and DCAMU are taken.
MOTU? I guess it will depend how Superman-centric it is or if it will really embrace the whole DCU.

Now they're saying it's not the start of a new shared universe. Rollercoaster.

Given how little staying power any of the attempts at "modern" Superman costumes tend to have, it's not shocking they just said fuck it and stuck with the classic.

The Reborn suit was pretty well regarded, shame they wasted it with the DCAMU right before ending that version.

I think the best DC productions are a good blend of a classic and modern aesthetic, personally.

I've never been shy in hating the trunks and thinking they should be ditched - but comic fans are largely against it because nostalgia I guess.

Agreed - I just don't want the trunks to be the part of the classic aesthetic they choose to keep.

    I agree with you.

Some fans want a demi-god in red Underoos. That's their Superman

It's not my Superman. I can't even look at him with the trunks.

To each her/his own, I guess.

Yeah, but he was raised in Kansas. The Kents obviously failed on the basic lesson that underwear goes inside the pants.

People don't wear capes either irl. Trunks are masculine anyway.

Yeah, but at least the cape looks cool.

And sure underwear is very masculine versus panties, but it's still not right to wear them outside your pants.
