When I played Outbreak file 2, I found it to be really easy to be quickly contaminated, and the trick of that one guy to lie down is not useful to escape monsters.

I've been replaying RE2 a lot lately, and the game is still awesome, but I have a list of changes I want for the remake:
    1. "Keep the start with one in scenario 'A', complete with the other in scenario 'B'" for both of them. That is a big part of what makes this game a classic.
    2. "Change the puzzles". It doesn't make sense to have scenario 'A' character and scenario 'B' character perform the exact same puzzles, especially when one has to unlock the door or douse the flames the other character did first in their scenario.
    3. "Keep the infinite ammo cheat". I WANT it, I can't be the only one wanting it.
    4. Show the destruction of the wall caused by Mr. X in scenario B apparent in scenario A
    5. Scenario B character douses the flames caused by the helicopter before scenario A character reaches the police station. Don't make scenario A character douse the flame again.
    6. Marvin shouldn't lock the door behind him being as fatally wounded as he is, he should be dead.
    7. Speaking of Marvin, he should be dead since the game start, cause Jill exits the station before Leon or Claire arrival, and she finds his corpse.
    8. Scenario A character should not need to unlock the doors accessed from the main hall, scenario B character unlocked them earlier.
    9. The ladder should be down and ready in scenario A.
    10. The window Nemesis broke jumping through should appear broken for RE2 characters.
    11. I want the files we collect in the N64 version to be available.
    12. Annete in scenario B for Claire goes running for her daughter, but in scenario A Leon she goes for Leon instead, as if she doesn't know her way through the factory. Lady, you had saving your daughter as priority 1, why ignore her to go tell Leon that Ada is a spy?
    13. You know something? Give Annete her Darkside Chronicles personality.

I finished Outbreak File 2. This time I played all but the second scenario on normal mode. I beat them, but not without a lot of frustration. The Outbreak games really are the hardest Resident Evil games and it comes down to the deficiencies of the AI. The challenges are designed and balanced to be taken on by a team of competent players, not one player and two braindead AIs.

As an example, there's a very late boss encounter where you have an extremely short timer. In the limited time you have you're supposed to escort an injured NPC to a helicopter, walking with them on your shoulder which is very slow and leaves you vulnerable. What would happen in a game with other players is that one player would escort the NPC and the other players would attack and distract the boss, either killing it or at least giving the escorter time to get away without getting repeatedly smacked in the head. What happens with the AI is that sometimes they take potshots at it, but much of the time they ignore it to pick up items or run crazily about the level and straight into landmines while the boss beats up on your character and you run out of time or die.

It took hours and I was only able to complete this battle on easy because there's a rocket launcher about halfway down the path on this difficulty mode and if you get lucky and your AI partners randomly decide to take a few shots at the boss you can get the NPC over there and use it to finish the boss to make it just in time. On Normal I took another path that avoids this scenario (substituting three tough boss fights) and still had to abandon the NPC because my virus gauge was so high by the end she was slowing me down too much to get to the final encounter in time. I think I could have saved her with better time management, though.

Now playing Resident Evil 4. For the first time I'm playing it in the PC version and in 4K and 60fps. At 60fps and coming off a couple weeks of playing games with clunky tank controls Leon feels superhumanly fast and capable in this one. My problem so far is getting drunk with power and seeking out risky fights I really should skip.

Ubisoft port of the game or the HD update?

Whew, RE4 is easily the best RE, except for maybe 2 but I've got so much nostalgia tied up in that one it's hard to be objective. 4 is a long, satisfying ride in which one interesting scenario simply leads to another. Could have been a little more difficult, but I guess that's what Professional mode is for. I actually beat the final boss with three shots. I exposed his weakpoint with a fully upgraded Broken Butterfly Magnum round. Hit the weakpoint with the free rocket launcher, which I carried through half the game. Then used Ada's special launcher to finish the job.

Next up, I got Dead Aim in the mail. So it looks like I'm going to be able to play through most of them, minus a few odds and ends like Gun Survivor 2, Gaiden and some crappy mobile games.

^ Q-F-muthatruckin'-T. Although trying to get a significant chunk of the RE core to agree with this scientific fact is a challenge. And good luck with Dead Aim.

Oh, meantimes, we gots a trailer for the next (3rd) CG Resi film, currently named Biohazard Vendetta.

Difficult to parse what's going on as yet but it looks alright. That's obviously Leon and Chris (though Chris' face is oddly different) and apparently Rebecca Chambers is in it too, though I can't spot her here. Otherwise, we got a morgue, we got a very Spencer-esque mansion in the woods, we got zombies, and we got some shady smirking git who's presumably a bad guy. It should be noted that this is being made by a different animation company than the ones who did Degeneration and Damnation - presumably why we're not seeing another D-something-tion title - so I'm pretty curious to see if there's a tangible difference.

Resident Evil 4 is the only time in the series I've felt anything akin to horror and tension, and that comes simply from not being able to retreat to the safety of the inventory screen to reload. You need to reload your gun in RE4 as an enemy is bearing down on you? Now you have to do it in realtime, you don't get to freeze time in the inventory screen and reload everything back up, it's a moment of tension that can arise during any enemy encourage completely naturally out of the games mechanics.

It's only real weaknesses are it doesn't explore some of the cool things it gives you, it would have been nice having a few more areas like the opening one, where its big and open, and you can block doors to keep things out. And some of the creature and villain designs aren't quite up to snuff with past games. Probably would have been more interesting if the castle was more like the mansion, where it was something that you could learn and explore as opposed to a level where you're always moving forward.

It's Mercenaries mode is also still the most fun of any of them. Would have been cool if had more past RE characters to **** around with, but whatever, the mode is just almost perfect.

I too am having trouble discerning what kind of game Vendetta will be. Hopefully something akin to RE4 and 5 (closer to 4 though), and not RE6 Call of Duty.

Vendetta is a CGI movie, not a game.

Oh, really? They all look the same nowadays. I thought it was just CGI cut scenes.

Beat Dead Aim. It's certainly worth playing but it's very slight. There's a not that serious, non-essential story and not much content. My clear time says two hours and 16 minutes, although the real time is a bit more because there's one annoying tricky boss that's very hard unless you use the right weapon.

Good points? The light gun/third-person shooting mechanics are improved over Survivor, the graphics are very good for a PS2 title, the storyline is cute and there's a lighthearted romantic interplay between the two main characters. Enemies have interesting designs and are cool to look at. It has one of the best automaps of any RE, although that's sort of related to a bad point. Oh and, hey, transgender villain. Capcom being accidentally progressive years ahead of its time.

Bad points? I missed the branching paths of Survivor. This game is completely linear. You need that map because the whole game is a maze filled with dead ends. Its most useful feature is keeping track of those dead ends so you can find the narrow correct path. Sometimes exploring will net you extra healing items, weapons and ammo but not that often, they're usually put in places you need to go. And some people might be irritated by the main character. He has a southern accent and a mostly glib attitude. There is a secondary character, a Chinese spy, that you can control at brief points throughout the game. When you beat the game you can replay with her as the main character but it doesn't change the story and the cutscenes still play as if you're the southern dude.

The only attempt this game makes to tie into RE is a bit of a howler, just coming out and saying its villain, Morpheus, was "responsible" for Raccoon City without really explaining. And there are only three environments, a kinda drab ship, a sewer and a mostly dull lab. To heighten the difficulty and maybe to hide pop-in some larger sections like the sewers are dark and you use a flashlight, so you can't see very far ahead.

There are only four and a half boss fights. One of them is the annoying "tricky" fight against a blind enemy that'll wreck you unless you use a silenced pistol, then he's helpless. One I beat by standing still and shooting a giant bee with a machine gun. There's a decent fight against a tyrant though and the final fight against Morpheus is challenging and requires some good timing to do well. The half fight is shooting at weakpoints on a wall of flesh to push it back, doesn't really count.

And unless you have the Guncon 2 lightgun, there's some unavoidable awkwardness in the setup even if it is less clunky than Survivor. For controllers it'd simply work better as a TPS like RE 4. You can - almost - play it like an FPS, but the game doesn't want you to. It makes you hold a button to move in first person and you move really slowly.

All right, time for RE 5. Going to play the enhanced PS4 version that was recently released.

I beat RE5 a little while back. Every time I play it I appreciate it a little more, although because it's a bit more difficult than RE4 there are several "not this again" moments that I kind of dread. The AI can be pretty dumb at critical moments, too, and sometimes failure isn't entirely your fault.

The tone is interesting. There's some darkness and visual grit, but it's got some of the over-the-top ridiculous of later REs mixed right in so it can get a little strange and dreamlike.

I've started Resident Evil: Revelations on PC. The main thing is that it plays so much better than it did on the 3DS. It seems like a completely different, much easier game than when I struggled through it with 3DS controls. But it also definitely shows its handheld origins. They've upgraded some textures and things but the models look a lot simpler and stiffer than modern console games, even significantly worse than RE5. No big deal, it's just not visually blowing my mind.

I really disliked RE5 the first time through back in the day but it grew on my over time. I think that was partially because the first time I played it, I played it solo and yeah, that partner AI is really not great. I eventually figured out the best thing to do was to give the AI the first automatic weapon you find and keep the pistol, shotgun, and sniper rifle to yourself, the AI seemed strangely more conservative with bullets with the machine guns so that made ammo management a lot better. That game has a lot of legitimately great parts, like the village at the start of the game where you are trapped in a building being attacked by tons of enemies, and that first ouroboros boss fight now long after it. Then it has stuff like, well, everything with Wesker and BOULDER PUNCH!(all great stuff that was missing from 6).

Revelations is pretty alright, if a little to long for it's own good, I think they really did some great stuff with the second game though.

What I do in RE5 is give the AI a sniper rifle and let them use it as their main. They don't have to aim it so they have none of the drawbacks I'd have using it at short range. It basically gives them a high-powered pistol and there's abundant ammo.
