Default Has anyone ever heard of these guys called the Black Hebrew Israelites?

I notice I once took a walk in New York City especially in areas like Times Square, and I walked by what appears to be some sort of religious fanatical cult with guys in ninja-like costumes preaching something about race and the Bible. And they seem to insult everyone that comes in their sight (similar to the Westboro Baptist Church) and I can't help but feel funny and just shrug. And I notice people upload videos of these jokers to youtube a lot.

Can anyone tell me, what is up with these guys? What's their deal?

I met a few in Indianapolis back in 2002. They were pretty chill people. The underlying theme is People of african descent who self-identify as inheritors/descendants of Ancient Israel (but oddly enough don't identify as being Jewish.) It's a small group which is further subdivided by different denominations within their community. If you have a group doing Westboro type stuff, it isn't reflective of their beliefs as a whole. Lots of splinter groups.

I heard they were exposed as frauds. The late professor John Henrik Clarke might have written something on them. I'm not sure.

They helped Whitney Houston quit drugs and turn her life around, allowing her to live happily ever after.

I don't see them much anymore, I remember walking on Jamaica avenue near the Coliseum years and years ago one was on a soap box and yelled "Some a y'all need to get ya heads lopped off!!" Lol. Funny stuff.

It's pretty much the same deal.

I've seen them near Penn Station. They're nutters.

I accidentally attended one of their meetings when I was in college. Definitely not my scene.

But the guy just said that in indianapolis, that they're nice people, but when I said in new york city, that they're a pretty hostile and delusional group of people.

Don't people from Indy always say that about New Yorkers, though?

I also wrote they had a bunch of denominations with conflicting viewpoints. Reading is fundamental.

They're annoying. I haven't seen them as much recently but I think that's due to the weather. But you'll find them on the busiest streets, like on Flatbush Junction in Brooklyn or Jamaica Ave in Queens. I'm sure I've seen them some place in Manhattan.

I've only seen then on Youtube and I hope to keep it that way. Just hearing them talk about Africans as monkeys and barbarians is enough to turn me off.

I stayed in a hostel once with a black guy who was really into a group like this and constantly watching their youtube videos and reading their tracts. He was a pleasant friendly guy though, even though his videos looked angry. He was always trying to make the other black people there hear about it but they didn't care.
