It's at least preferable to Devil May Cry 4.
If I want a mature and relevant plotline I'll pick up something that's not a Devil May Cry game. I play DMC for the Dynasty Warriors-level cheesy dialog and flashy combos.

It's funny juxtaposition. Also makes for a much more gritty atmosphere.

The DMC reboot wasn't a grounbreaking gameplay system but it was certainly fluid and I had fun on it.

    YMMV of course.

DMC3 is my favorite in the series both in terms of gameplay and its "over the top"-factor. I remember when Capcom showcased the cutscene with Poison and Dante at a trade show. All the journalists were instantly facepalming.

DMC3 is my favourite due to its gothic aesthetic, fun and simple but challenging gameplay and while the story isn't exactly the finest of prose it does a great job of telling a personal story about Dante and Vergil set to the backdrop of a cataclysmic event.

DMC4 is fun and I enjoy the love story angle for Nero and Kyrie but it just got a bit too long for its own good.

The reboot is a good game on its own merits. It's has an overall better story and the fighting mechanic is just as tight along with the benefit of having superior platforming. While the boss fights are fun and varied most of them are too easy. It also has the series' most progressive female character in Kat, which is a nice plus. It's not quite as good as DMC3 but it's a blast.

Loved all the DMC games. I'll eventually get around to playing DmC since I got it free on PS+. I guess 2 was the worst, it was just easy and different, but it's still better than alot of other games I've played. I also have the comic series too. That thing had some GREAT art in it (that I remember, haven't actually read it in years, but I still have it).

Doubtful it didnt do so good sales wise, and Ninja Theory went out of their way to piss off fans of the original series, apparently though there is a Devil May Cry 5 in the works, maybe something will be announced at E3 or maybe it could be done with

I don't care if its a DMC:2 or Devil May Cry 5 or something else but I do want more games to this series. I hope it doesn't die out
