I usually put the books I want to read most at the bottom of my stack, as a motivation to power through the ones I'm not so thrilled to dive into. I finally got caught up on the last two issues of Spider-Man 2099 the other day and I can't stop thinking about them! I'm eagerly awaiting the next issue. PAD's quite possibly my favorite writer, and with Miguel he IS the voice of this character, so in some ways he's at his best when penning Spidey 2099.

I love the direction he's taking Miguel, and the dark edge he's bringing back to the character. That reveal about Tempest's mother was tragic and, honestly, kinda fucked up. But it fit perfectly within the trajectory of this tale, so I just went with it. Now we've got something Sinister on the way; can't wait to grab the next issue of this fantastic book!

Indeed. At first he sets us up to think she's just a controlling b**** who wants to be a gold digger by proxy of her own daughter, but then we find out that she's really a mutant who killed her husband after finding out he was peeping on her daughter and got in bed, metaphorically speaking, with criminals to protect her daughter and keep her from manifesting powers that she couldn't control and would accidentally hurt others with. Quite tragic.

Very tragic. I can't wait to see where this book goes from here, especially with Sinister Six 2099 showing up in the coming issues!

And hey, there's another hint about the Goblin in the preview for next week's issue.

Sweet! So as revealed in the latest issue, spoilers:
Father Jennifer was the Goblin, but the REAL twist was her actually being a mole to Gabe and Kasey. Interesting.
    end of spoilers

Also, it looks like we got spoilers:
a very different Doc Ock 2099 from the one introduced in Shattered Dimensions, which is cool.

    Good issue!

I liked the new villains, or at least, what we saw of them. And it was nice for PAD to finally be able to solve that identity reveal the way he wanted to back in June of '96! (Hot damn! Has it really been twenty years?)

Sandwoman's power set looks interesting, and I expect we'll be seeing more of the rest of them in the next couple issues of this storyline. Good to see that Roberta will be getting some more spotlight, if the August solicits are anything to go by.

I really wish this title was consistently bimonthly, as it just feels like I have to wait forever for my next does of 2099. At least Gallows is over in Contest of Champions I guess... Maybe after the rest of the Secret Wars 2099 cast is (re)introduced we can get an Avengers 2099 spinoff title or something.

I loved revisiting (in a way that word is appropriate) this 2099!

The Sinister Six looked, dare I say.... amazing. and I'm very curious to see what happens to Miguel moving forward, especially with such an ultimatum hanging over his head!

Agreed! Kasey especially excited me, if I'm being completely honest.

I guess I just wasn't expecting this issue to be as much of a throwback as it ended up being. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised!
