Does Miggy have an "arch enemy"? You could say Tyler Stone, but he's not much more dangerous then JJ was to Spidey in the early days. Goblin's barely made a blip in Miggy's life. Vulture, Venture and the Specialist were great threats at the beginning. Not so much anymore. Venom was responsible for Dana's death, but it was never mentioned again. Does he need one?

    Interesting question.

Vulture 2099 had some of the major appearances (an early foe who popped up in Spider-Man Meets Spider-Man 2099) while Venture was the first bad guy and popped up in major places (The 25th issue, The relaunch) even though he has usually been pretty easy to beat. It arguably helps the book to not have one bad guy overpowering everyone else.
    Sincerely,

Yeah, I guess his main opposition was "the system". The corporations that were constantly creating or encouraging these mid level baddies for Miguel. I guess the corporations have now been replaced by Time itself as his main "adversary".

Miguel really does tend to go up against corrupt institutions as opposed to one specific threat. He's much more of a social/political commentary than Peter Parker, IMO.

I'd also agree with the idea that time is currently his biggest rival, because he's working against the clock to restore the future, while still at odds with the system and its natural progression along the way.

And even Venture was only Mig's enemy if he was being paid to be.

I find it interesting how they're going with Kron. Like, he's Venom, he's the one who killed Dana, put Tyler in the hospital, but he's calling Miguel "little bro", and is keeping his identity secret from the other SS, and not even in a subtle way. Family's family, I guess. Still, he doesn't seem all that bothered by the prospect of killing him, so who knows.

For a slightly different question, who from the old run (or just the original 2099 comicsverse) haven't we seen pop up yet? In this or other related titles? None of the X-Men I guess, and no Ghost Rider... Gallows is out and about, and we saw Hulk in Secret Wars, along with Sub-Mariner and Strange, who has also made appearances in the main book. So's Gallows, come to it. We saw the Specialist in Spider-Verse, albeit briefly. Doom was in the Uncanny Avengers arc where Kang was building up his army of peoples plucked from possible futures...

Man, Miguel didn't have a lot of recurring foes, did he?

I don't recall what happened to Flipside at the end of his arc, but he's only showed up in Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time as an alternate skin for Miguel.

I don't think we've seen Risque, Packrat, and Data Pirate. Again, it's been a long time, but I think they might be dead or just forgotten.

Flipside was revealed to be alive and had murdered all bandits and about to move towards Packrat iirc. He was a bit too edgy/Carnage-y for my taste though -he'd have to have more of a personality to be an interesting recurring foe.

Ravage hasn't turned up anywhere, to the best of my knowledge, but that's probably for the best...

One thing I feel that's been hurting the recent volume(s) is a vague sense of lack of direction. We know Miguel is supposed to protect his 2099 (I suppose this is how the book ties to CWII?) but also change it so it's better than the one he left (a risky move, considering he's never shown to be sure whether the timeline changing ripple effects will allow him or his loved ones to survive) and stay in the present to watch Alchemax and Stone... By the beginning of this volume it seems he wants to stay with Tempest on current 616 and Alchemax in the present are a non-factor, he merely deals with the altered timeline versions. He's being thrown back and forth into these broken futures and his motivation isn't as clear anymore.

Yeah, hard not to disagree. Didn't he get Parker to bid against Alchemax for the prison? Maybe he thinks that solved everything and he decided to stay in the present and make a life with Tempest. Once she was nearly killed, he's been after the culprits, which turned out to be this mysterious Fist organization. Then there's the whole Cap and Iron Man 2099 being in the present for some unknown reason. It does seem a bit disorganized. Hopefully we'll get a clearer picture in the next couple issues.

I have a feeling that this Fist organization is going to be the people alluded to being behind the current state of 2099. Which, okay, I guess, Miguel's fighting subversive supervillain bio-terrorists? Like, I'm definitely enjoying the title, but I do agree that it seems a little unfocused at the moment.

Its weird how there's a tie in to Civil War II when Miguel has been disconnected from the rest of the MU unless it relates to 2099 or Spider-Man.

From the solicits, I'd assume it's just got the banner and is going to be much like Secret Wars 2099, in that it's not really related at all.

I'm not sure how directly connected it will be, but the themes of Civil War II are very close to the themes of this volume of Spidey 2099; the future as it relates to descisions made in the past, the morality behind how to handle the present to put the future on the "right" path—whatever that means. I'm interested.
