Question Should Jeff Lemire out Storm as LGBT?

Jeff Lemire is doing a good job with handling Iceman and Anole's sexuality in his comic, would you want him to be the writer to FIIIIIIIINALLY tackle the issue of Storm's sexuality? Is she bi, is she pansexual, is she str8, is she "gay for Yukio" or is she just above labels? We had hopes that Greg Pak would explore this in her solo series (esp. when Yukio showed up)... but alas it was not meant to be. So would you want to see Lemire explore this? (even IF it's explored with the result you don't want).

    Thoughts?

"We are Shakespeare. We are Michelangelo. We are Tchaikovsky. We are Turing. We are Mercury. We are Wilde. We are Lincoln, Lorca, Leonardo da Vinci. We are Alexander the Great. We are Fredrick the Great. We are Rustin. We are Addams. We are Marsha! Marsha Marsha Marsha! We so generous, we DeGeneres. We are Ziggy Stardust hooked to the silver screen. Controversially we are Malcolm X. We are Plato. We are Aristotle. We are RuPaul, god dammit! And yes, we are Woolf."

As much as I would like it, I doubt Marvel will do it.

    Sure, I'd like it.

Would I like to see Storm confirmed as LGBT? Absolutely. Do I want Lemire to be the one handling that story? With respect, no.

While I think the overall concept of Anole being Iceman's mentor in the ways of gay is keen, I'm not all that impressed with the initial execution. I wasn't sold on the fact that, apparently, the first person Iceman's coming out to (aside from his younger self and Jeen, obvs) is someone who's only real point of connection is that they're both gay. If I squint, I can spin it as Bobby being just that isolated from all of his oldest friends -- Beast is with the Inhumans, Warren's had his personality wiped yet again, Jean's still dead, and Cyclops is back to being on everyone's **** list -- and it just feels safer to unburden himself to a stranger with no emotional hold over him. But that's more heavy lifting than I want to do for a story I'm not wild about. And I wasn't thrilled about Lemire getting Victor's basic backstory wrong either.

So yeah. Want to see it, but I can wait for a writer whose X-Men work I like a bit more.

I'm really enjoy Lemire's work; LOVED his Storm speech in issue #6. Such a good cast, and an enjoyable story too.

I understand what you mean, BUT I 100% see Iceman confiding in Anole over anyone else (as you say, his oldest friends are MIA). I've had people I'm not particularly close to confide in me because I was the only other "gay in the village" (that they knew of). It's natural, when it's all so new, to seek out advice from actual gay people (and, other than Northstar or Karma, both unaccounted for, who would he pick?). Maybe he should have confided in Storm

How did he get Victor's backstory wrong? (I forget)

I'm the opposite. I think he's been making Storm look foolish. First with the "let's hate Cyclops but copy his moves" card and then with the "I'm in the astral plane! please school me teen Jean!".

He could write her much better.

I don't have a problem with Lemire handling it, I think that one of the things that he's good at writing is the team relationships with each other and their personality. But, yeah, only if as bi/pan/ and I guess that's what mostly everyone wants(or see as viable) too. I can buy it that Bobby's relationships weren't reeally genuine and that he really didn't felt attracted or in love with his girlfriends, but I can't do the same with Storm.

I'm happy with her the way she is and her history with Forge; pretty much agree with what Wiccan said...

It's not that Victor's the one he's going to for advice and such. It's that Vic seems to be the only one he's come out to, and that's a little hard for me to swallow. For example, Storm might not be able to give him much in the way of pointers on planting his P-Flag, but they are friends and colleagues. The idea that he's kept this under wraps for 8 - 16 months (I keep forgetting how post-SW Marvel relates to the last big time-skip we were supposed to have) after admitting it to himself/his younger self and then only saying something to Vic is just clunky and kills momentum. I get that this was a double problem Lemire inherited from Bendis and the latest event, but it's still his job to make it work.

How did he get Victor's backstory wrong? (I forget)
Vic didn't go lizard-like at puberty, he was born with an obvious mutation. His hometown was pretty cool with it overall. He only got sent to Xavier's because his folks were worried about rising anti-mutant sentiment.

I do not want to alter my favorite characters (changed their sexual orientation, gender, age, appearance, and so on). This is a serious reason to quit reading comics.

I'm not sure what's been 'good' about Lemire's handling of Iceman's sexuality. He only touched on it once in that painfully awkward for the reader scene where Bobby asks Anole for assistance. It's amazing how Bobby put exploring his sexuality on hold for 16 months just so the new writer could deal with it.

As for Storm... She already looks like RuPaul and is apparently a real world queer icon. Might as well make her obvious queer affinity official and have her be bisexual or pansexual. Having her 'only gay for Yukio' would be ridiculous.

Should Lemire be the one to handle such a story? Not unless it's in a Storm solo title he'll write at some point. His EXM writing has been underwhelming to say the least.

Too bloody late for that my friend. The horse has already left the barn. This is Marvel's new shtick, taking long established heroes and changing their sexual orientation in lieu of telling good stories, because the later requires dedication and hard work, while the former I can do between shots and flipping through porn sites. Besides when you have a big Daddy called Disney paying the bills and my dude bro pals in the editorial office making sure I keep getting work, why put out any effort?

The X books have been on a slow descent for me ever since they brought on Grant Morrison and has continued on a down ward descent in subsequent years. I hardly recognize the SH team that I was introduced to and inspired by in the mid 90's. The thing with Bobby Drake is pretty much the last straw for me, and I'm done as a fan. As four of my top 10 SH are X-Men, I'll pick up a book if there's a substantive story line featuring them. Otherwise from now on I'll get my X-Men fix through my old Claremont, Nicieza and Lobdell trades.

In the meantime someone send me a PM when Storm and Betsy get engaged. Because we all know it's coming.

No definitely not. Storm is a character who should have no label. She's neither straight nor bi. For she loves who she wants whether it be a boy, girl or alien. None of it matters to her.
Emma Frost, Rogue, Felicia Hardy, Helena Bertinelli, Allison Blaire, Barbara Gordon, Monica Rambeau, Carol Danvers, Illyana Rasputin, Ororo Munroe, Harleen Quinzel, Lorna Dane, Irene Adler, Kate Kane, Rachel Grey Summers, Jean Grey, Diana Prince, Barbara Ann Minerva, Donna Troy, Jennifer Walters, Gwen Stacy, Wanda Maximoff = PERFECTION!

Yes, I want her to be a pansexual transwoman.

    I'm dead serious.

I'm still surprised people remember this because that was a long time ago but happened to Bobby so why not with Storm?

Depend on the story and the way it would happen have not forgotten the mess with Jean and Bendis.

Yes, only if the result is bisexual/pansexual
