    Whoa, that is butch.

With the pale hand up front and especially the enticing 'Monocle of Color', hovering like a gutsy origin background? To Skeleton Head himself?

As if narrating or reminiscing heartily if not bemusedly even, on say fortune or endeavors per chance?

    Neat-O.

It's not a monocle, it's the old man's "vulture-eye". Have you ever read the Poe story?

    Excellent call.
As I wasn't making the Poe connection, not realizing this piece to being a 'Skeleton Head meets Poe pastiche' I should be looking into his short stories again, and for me the vulture-eye you mention isn't ringing any bells.
So I will look into those stories, with hypothesizin' on whether such tales could be springing from old cooty daguerrotypes or such. Which'll be cool, so thanks.

The old man's eye is basically what causes the narrator to lose his sh!t and get to murdering along with dismembering the old man's corpse for deposit under the floorboards.
