Default The Other Blue Shape-shifting Mutant: Copycat Appreciation

It appears that after CBR's big purge of the forums her appreciation thread was never remade and with the recent release of the Deadpool movie, it was time to make a new one.

So welcome to the Vanessa Carlysle AKA Copycat Appreciation Thread!
Let's rebuild this thread by posting pics, news, discussion, and whatnot of everyone's favorite sexy, psycho, blue shape-shifting mutant not named Mystique.

Hmm, would be interesting if she came back in the Deadpool books with the raised profile she got from the movie, and it would create some interesting conflict in Wade's marriage with Shiklah. Then again, Shiklah did say she had other husbands besides Wade, in a present-tense kind of way, so Wade having Vanessa "Copycat" Carlysle back in his life on a romantic basis might not be so unfeasible. By the way, her shapeshifting is even better than Mystique's, because apparently she can mimic powers and abilities as well as appearances, or else how would she have pulled off her impersonation of Titania? And didn't she first appear posing as Domino in X-Force before readers met the actual Domino?
The spider is always on the hunt.

I wouldn't be opposed to this happening. Shiklah and Wade's marriage will most likely crumble, as shown in Deadpool 2099. Vanessa acting as the catalyst would be great. As much as I love Shiklah, Wade and Vanessa make a better, more evenly matched couple. It took the movie to remind me how fun they are together. She was there before Deadpool came to be, and if I'm remembering correctly, wasn't fazed by his scarred face. Although she appeared to be killed off by Sabertooth, it was hinted she was alive in the Deadpool Wedding issue. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

    Yes, that's all correct!

    From the Marvel Wikia http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Vanessa...28Earth-616%29

    Powers and abilities:

Genetic Metamorph: Her mutant physiology gave her light blue skin, white hair, and luminescent red eyes. Able to duplicate another humanoid or near-humanoid so accurately that even those closest to them couldn't tell the difference. Unlike the shapeshifting abilities of Mystique, Copycat's morphing seemed to go to the genetic level, where she could reproduce powers as well. This ability actually functioned in a sponge-like way, meaning that Copycat would begin to mimic another person just by being near them, sometimes involuntarily. The extent of the transfer depended on the length of exposure. Her ability may have even allowed her to replicate her template's psi-patterns.

Love Vanessa! Just wish they revealed she was a mutant in Deadpool. Would've made a great reveal at the end.

That was my biggest gripe. There were so many moments where I thought it might happen. Definitely disappointed.

Can't help but wonder if Fox was like "Copycat would make our precious Jenn- erm, Mystique look bad. Yeah, no."

She's BACK already, it was confirmed in the Wedding Special Issue of Deadpool and Shiklah , when Sabretooth apparently killed her way back in Frank Tieri's run , Deadpool saved her by feeding her his healing blood , but he never learned that it worked , as she only "resurrected" after he had already believed that she was dead. She was even one of his 10 ex-wives who divorced him , but it was under a different identity , in a long-running plan to break his heart and wreck his life after she came back from the dead. She also spied on him for a while posing as the owner of the local mexican foodtruck in his neighborhood where he bought his chichimangas , and in that guise, she helped to cause another one of his 10 ex-wives [among which, were believe it or not, Mystique (also under a different identity as part of a plot to mess with him and the Weapon X team circa FT's run, and never consummated), Domino (as part of an undercover assignment while she was still with Cable in their last on-off relationship and never consummated), Carol Danvers (as part of a drunken hook-up in Las Vegas which was broken up immediately at the Chapel by Steve Rogers before it was consummated), and Outlaw (consummated and he divorced her because she was both TOO insatiable and TOO superpowerful that she was literally tearing him to pieces during their honeymoon) to other women before Shiklah].

BTW I hate the way Copycat broke Kane's heart which caused him to become evil during Frank Tieri's run on Deadpool and his Weapon X series. Apparently, she kept on pining for DP even while she was already with Kane post-Onslaught even though her last experiences with DP at that point were extremely negative (he nearly caused her death when she risked her life to save him from Slayback during his first mini-series by Fabian Nicieza and Joe Madureira) as he was still in his "evil" period before he began his gradual reformation in his own solo regular series beginning with Joe Kelly.

I don't think that's too far off the mark, especially since Copycat's powers are more impressive. My initial guess is that studio execs worried that the general non-comic book reading public would be confused by another blue shape-shifter. Or maybe it made it was too difficult to fit into the larger narrative. Either way it's definitely the most disappointing part of an otherwise stellar movie.

She'll definitely get powers in Part II or III or IV. This a franchise now

Rhett Reese explains why we didn't see Copycat:
We did toy with [the idea], you know, but again, there was so much for the audience... We’re introducing a new character to the world, and so we didn’t want to muddy the waters with, ‘Wait a second, she’s also a mutant?’ So hopefully, we’ll see what happens if we’re afforded the opportunity to move forward on this world. It’s something that would probably be worth exploring at some point.

It basically boiled down to "we don't want to confuse the poor audience."

When JLaw is gone, the Fox-Men have a new blue shapeshifter in reserve.

Out of curiosity, have Mystique and Copycat ever really interacted with each other?

You guys are talking like we have a blue shapeshifter now lol. We don't. We got JLaw. Maybe that's the real reason she's against wearing blue make-up, she's thinking about Copycat's introduction and not confusing the audience!
