When new users sign up for an account on the VB system, there is a option to list a current user as a referral. It doesn't really give the poster any extra privileges or anything other than a tally of how many new users typed in their user name.

Some other vBulletin sites dole out incentives to users who refer other users to the site. That's not something we've ever done (or are ever likely to do), but it's just part of the standard vBulletin package.
