Default "Deadpool" Writers Explain Why an X-Men Crossover Won't Happen... For Now

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick discussed how "Deadpool" and "X-Men" exist in the same universe even though they are "two very distinct brands."

Of course, if they bring Cable into the picture, the timeline differences between the X-Men and Deadpool really don't matter at all. That said, I found the X-Men ties to be the weakest parts of Deadpool (and haven't been much impressed with the way the X-Men franchise has gone since X2), so I'm perfectly happy if they keep the movie in its own part of the "wading pool."

Colossus was perfect as a more exaggerated version of himself for comedic effect. Thats why they need to stay separate because Deadpool needs exaggerated versions of these characters. If this was a xmen movie id want colossus to be a little less dumb and goofy. For deadpool he was perfect. Best version of him we have gotten so far lol.

Sidenote is Gambit still happening havent heard crap in months and it was suppose to come out late this year(clearly not happening)

You'll more than likely hear news of the new pushed back date later this year.

Sure, it can take some time for an actual crossover, but obviously the franchise has played fast and loose with time before, i.e. how Xavier looked in the 1980s.

As for Colossus, while he was exaggerated, it gave him more to do AND I loved that juxtaposition between PG-rated hero and R-rated hero on the same side. Colossus was a great straight man, and not just because of his powers.

The timeline is a lame excuse. They just need a good story for a crossover or cameo.

Whilst I dug the "studio couldn't afford another X-Man" gag, it would've been nice if Negasonic had said "You're wondering why it's just me and Piotr in the mansion? Rest of the team's away fighting Magneto - again."

Wade: "'Rest of the team's fighting Magneto again' - geez, how CONVENIENT! And when are ya gonna learn Magneto's like the shark in Jaws - HE ALWAYS FUCKIN' COMES BACK!!!" or somesuch.

That joke works too. Sending a man of steel to fight Magneto, is like constantly sending a guy with metal claws to fight Magne.... Ops.

The budget gag is shorter and something everyone's going to get without explanation.
Patsy Walker on TV! Patsy Walker in new comics! Patsy Walker in your brain! And Jessica Jones is the new Nancy! (Oh, and read the Comics Cube.)

I can understand why the two brands wouldn't cross over at the moment. I think beyond the R-rating, Deadpool is very new to the X-men cinematic universe. Fans are just starting to embrace him. It's going to take time to bring him into other X-men movies. I also think that the prospect of Bryan Singer leaving again and Hugh Jackman hanging up his claws is putting the X-men in a state of uncertainty. I get the sense Fox doesn't really know what they're doing to do. They have a new cast to work with, but I don't think they'll get Fassbender, McAvoy, or Lawrence to come back. Maybe they can get McAvoy, but there's a lot of transition that needs to happen before they can start thinking about major crossovers.

DP is obviously in a different dimension cause the X-men want him to join.
In the books no one wants DP in their team. DP is always going around saying he is an X-men but he is not.

I would have thought it was because, although DP is great, but he exists in his own breaking the 4th wall comedyverse and they don't want the X-Men doing that.
    Power with Girl is better.

Eh, I thought the movie handled it just right with Colossus asking, "Who are you talking to?"

In both Marvel and DC, the other heroes just don't realize that Deadpool and Animal Man know the truth about their universes, but the books go on anyway.

I do like that they can handle it in one of two ways.

In "Deadpool" movies, he is breaking the fourth wall and the other characters can't do that.

In "X-Men" movies that DP is in, he's delusional and thinks he's a character in a story.

Deadpool: Calm down its just a movie
Xavier: No my friend, this is real and will have dire consequences for all mutants.
Deadpool: Nah im pretty sure its just a movie, anywho.
