Your Dream pick Avengers Roster

The initial idea for this roster was running off the back of Secret Empire, but actually I've grown really fond of the team and the concept in general.

Ares (Joins officially after the first two arcs)


The express intention of this team is to atone for the crimes of their pasts, and everyone on the roster has at one point or another let the people down with their decisions. Hyperion's failure to save his Earth, and his execution of Namor. Scarlet Witch and M-Day, Ares' complicity in Dark Reign, Thor's reluctance to be see himself as worthy when the world needed him most etc, etc.

Obviously the team would have a lot of issues right off the bat, in particular it won't be plain sailing for Steve getting the trust back of Wanda and Vision but it's something they have to work through as a team because the world needs them. The first arc would kick off by Scott Lang visiting Steve and prompting him that if he wants to atone for the sins of 'Captain America' then he can start by rescuing Hank Pym, a founding Avenger who they've let down by abandoning him to Ultron.

Arc #2 would be Ares visiting Cap and them hunting down Gorgon and other remnants together

Later arcs would include Superior Octopus and his Sinister Six, The Squadron Supreme, and then finally return of the Sentry (Well depending on what happens in Dr. Strange)

I change my mind almost daily about who should be on what team. Right now though, I'd divvy up the Avengers into a few teams, all with a very different premise. Conceptually, this would be somewhat akin to Avengers World or the Initiative, dividing Earths Mightiest Heroes between various locations, each with a different roster. Then when it comes to the big threats, the teams can come together. The Champions, Defenders or Young Avengers could be included too if we're looking for further expansion.

1. The prime Avengers team serves and protects NYC, with a somewhat traditional lineup and classic nostalgic stories. Include the powerhouses and have them battle the fiercest threats to the MU (Kang, Masters of Evil etc.)
2. Then I'd have a team on the West Coast, a little more peculiar and unlike a traditional Avengers roster. Bring together characters that have fans but perhaps couldn't maintain a solo book in the Marvel climate. This team would be a little more grounded, with heist stories and such.
3. Then I'd establish a universal/interplanetary team similar to the recent Ultimates run, though scaling back the cosmic aspect slightly. Deal with Skrulls and the new Lethal Legion etc. Have a base of operations stylistically similar to the Alpha Flight station from the Captain Marvel title.
4. Lastly, set up an alternative supernatural/mystical team, with horror and fantasy stories involving Asgard and the Dark Dimension etc.

I think that just about covers everything, and allows Avengers readers to pick up the book of their choice, or mix and match. Rosters would look something like this:

This is all so tough because despite having four teams here, there are still characters missing. Its unavoidable within Marvel and DC comics, there just isn't enough room for all of them at any given time. And of course it's important for them to fit the story, and for the writer to actually care about involved characters. Otherwise regardless of the roster the book will lose quality.
